Is Stafford worth more than Aaron Rodgers? Just as an example of another QB who might suddenly become available with his team currently at least $28M over the cap for 2021 and possibly as much as $33M. Is he worth more than Derek Carr? This is a crazy year for value in the NFL due largely to an unexpected $20M+ cap contraction. Even in a normal year a QB of Stafford's pedigree would have a troubled trade market. He's no spring chicken and he's never won before so it's unclear if adding him to your roster is actually going to give you a lot of bang for your buck. Vinny was an unrestricted free agent when Parcells picked him up in '98. Still a decent QB with some upside but his age and his lack of pedigree put him out there on the wind when the Ravens made him a cap casualty in the spring of '98.
I don’t kill Mac/Bowles for what went down with bridgewater. He knew what the plan was and that he was insurance in case they were frozen out of the rookie qb market. In return he was given a chance to showcase and rehabilitate. Everyone won in that deal.
yeah it was an all around good situation for everyone involved. jets got an extra 3rd rounder (but blew the pick) for nothing so it was a wash for us. saints got a backup QB for insurance for a 3rd round pick. teddy got a chance to come back to the NFL which led to him getting signed to start with carolina and making some money
I assume you're saying that Watson's being unfairly branded as a diva/malcontent but who's doing the branding? From what I've seen/heard Watson's been held in sympathetic regard and the Texans have been (rightly) painted as the idiots for not fielding a competitive team around him (e.g. the brainless trade of Hopkins).
Wilson in a heartbeat. . Teddy?....me likes but I don't think he's taking the NYJ to the promise land..
https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/lions-qb-matthew-stafford-mutually-agree-part-ways-offseason He really isn't.
The Lions need for a QB is a real opportunity for the Jets to trade picks and get the Lions number one in 2022 which could be the 1st pick while still giving the Jets a chance at Smith or Chase at number 7.
Stafford and Detroit's #7 overall for The Jets #2 overall. pretty clean trade. Seems possible. Jets get Stafford but still get to keep the 2 1st rounders. Detroit can start fresh with whatever QB they want besides Trevor Lawrence. Thoughts?????
Stafford to a contender needing a QB somewhere for their mid to late 1st. The #7 and that pick plus either the Lions 2nd this year or 1st next year for the #2. That's a reasonable deal for a QB pick on the #2.
I understand why people would think that way. When you see the guys picked in the second round busting repeatedly, you think just trade the pick for a known commodity.
As crazy as it seems this is a good trade for the Rams. With Stafford on the Rams this year they likely aren’t just in the Super Bowl but the favorites with their defense. Having to give the Lions two firsts to take Goff, and that’s what those firsts are for, is worth it. The team is good enough and if they hit on their other picks will only get better.
