The "no shortcut to success" quote was Saleh trying to take heat off of JD - and it is almost certainly about Watson. Hate to burst you guys bubble but it sounds like the GM and HC have a plan in the draft and are not interested in giving up draft capital for a disgruntled QB. You may now return to your originally scheduled program. We aren't going for Watson unless its a steal.
If people around the NFL think so highly of Sam (as is supposedly the case) and think that the Jets just mishandled him, they could want Sam over Tua, or they could ask for Sam and the #2 and take Fields and hedge their bets.

You would take Watson if the compensation was the same? No way!! Lawrence is a generational talent on a rookie deal and Watson is a pro bowl talent on a mega deal. It’s not even close that you take Lawrence and build the team around him. Teams always use draft capital to draft their franchise QB.. it literally happens all the time so that logic is a flop unless ur picking 1 overall.

This is my feeling too. And I don't disagree with them if that is the path they take. Douglas is a great negotiator though, as we saw with the Adams trade, so he may be able to make a move for Watson while giving up less than people assume.

I agree that normally wouldn't be JD's modus operandi, but it's not every day that one has the opportunity to trade for an elite QB that one's of the 5 best in the NFL AND still have a 1st round pick in each of the next two drafts. With QB being so important and a factor that causes many GMs to lose their jobs, what better way could he ensure his future than by trading for Watson? In addition, Jets fans have been ready and willing to bail on this team and on their season tickets and PSLs after this season, losing out on Lawrence, and two years of Gase. Think of what a slam dunk it would be for marketing and the profitability of this team. Adding Saleh, one of the top HC candidates available and who wanted to be here, then adding Watson, and because of Watson, we were then able to sign Allen Robinson???? It would be one of the biggest/greatest turnarounds in NFL history, and would lift this fanbase out of the doldrums and energize them in a way nothing else could. That would be even better than getting Lawrence.
fair enough....I agree Houston is a mess...O’Brien was a mess as a GM....how he got the owners to ok that Hopkins trade is beyond me...one of the worst trades I’ve ever seen....and I remember all those great Terry Bradway “trades”. I don’t blame Watson for wanting out of Houston. but...my point is that I think players play and coaches coach and I’m not a fan of any player saying he needs to be involved in a GM search. I’m just not. I get that the word is he was “promised” and it didn’t happen because the dysfunctional org went back on their word. I don’t care. For as great as he is, Watson is not a multiple Super Bowl winner like Brady or Manning ... so I just don’t think he needs to whine about not being consulted on a GM hire. That’s not your job dude. all that being said, it doesn’t mean a ton to me one way or another. I still think he’s a great QB, I’m still pissed at Mac for passing on him to take a damn safety, and I’d still love him on my team....not really sure I want to give up three first rounders for him, but there may be another deal there to be made. and I wouldn’t go running for the hills if we did do something like that...but I’d hope we can do better
Watson signed a massive contract extension September 3rd. By January he wants to go back on it and leave - taking his guaranteed money with him. People can make all the excuses they want but it is still an integrity issue.
You're wrong. It's totally worth it. Surrounding Sam is a freaking joke. If we have to try to trade up for a QB in a year or two, it's likely to cost three #1s to move up or more, and that would be for an unproven QB who undoubtedly would not be as good as Watson. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. SMH

You should put the brakes on your optimism. He's working the Texans. Highly unlikely he comes to a 2-14 team loaded with holes. A 10-6 Miami team who could go deep in the playoffs with him next year, along with no state income tax is MUCH more appealing and likely. They can also make the Texans a very tempting offer. It's obviously not impossible, and I'd do cartwheels if we get him, but I can't see it hapoening. JMHO
