I think the #2, our third rounder and Seattle's first next year is fair comp.

It wouldn't kill the Jets draft capital at all.

if we have to give up 3 #1's its not worth it....with what those picks could turn into along with free agency we should surround Sam for one more year, then if it doesn't work out let Saleh bring in who he wants

They could also turn into pure shit. I'll trade three maybes for one gigantic absolute every day of the week.

Except your only surrounding Sam with 2 of those at most for one more year. More than likely 1 as they will probably hedge the bet by taking a qb in the first round also.

Giving up the number 2 pick is like giving up 3 number ones. We could certainly trade the number 2 pick for 2 number ones and more.

There are no absolutes, ever. Watson could get leveled and concussed in game 1 and never be the same.
It could be a complete malcontent in NY and crack under the media pressure.

Well if you're gonna be worried that a guy might get knocked out and concussed in a game of football then I guess no team should ever make a move ever again. Come on... you run that risk with literally anything you do in this sport. And there's nothing that says Watson is a malcontent, that's just made up out of thin air.

So could the rookies. But you also have the variable that they may suck. At least we know Watson is good.

In the internet age I think the whole big market media thing is slowly fading away as being any sort of deterrent. The smallest market players face tons of media scrutiny and he already plays in one of the biggest markets in the country as it is.

And all your draft picks could suck and be out of the league in 2 years.

So let's take ridiculous thoughts like that out of the conversation since none of us have foresight.

Drafting is a crapshoot; if I could trade 3 of our picks for a top 3-5 QB for the next decade I'm in.

Jets now favorites for Watson in 2021: 2/1 odds over the Dolphins 3/1

I would LOVE to know what is happening behind the scenes right now

This is a great point. We don't know how the Texans feel about Darnold. For all we know, they may like him a lot. Under that scenario, we could trade the #2 pick for multiple picks and include that + Darnold in our package for Watson. This could allow us to save our other picks.

The thing that makes the deal a no-go for me is that Watson could come to NY and be great and the Jets could still suck due to a lack of talent elsewhere.

He just had a truly great season and his team went 4-12. That has Jets written all over it.

No short cuts. Just build the damn team to win games and do it up and down the roster so a few guys aging out or getting hurt doesn't do us again.

Texans defense was 27th in points allowed and 30th in yards allowed.
Texans offense was 18th in points and 13th in yards.

One would assume the Jets defense is about to get much better, but they were STILL better than the Texans last year in both categories.

  18. I think the counter to that is hypothetically the Jets could acquire Watson & not sacrifice the future.Theyd still have ample amount of draft
Draft picks & cap space to fix the rest of the roster.

Also typical Jets would be him being 35 not 25 & being a top 15 QB rather than top 5

The Jets currently have 70M in cap. After cutting Henry Anderson, Greg Van Roten, and Alex Lewis, they would have 81M. Watson has a 16M cap hit in 2021 so the Jets cap would be 65M.

Let's assume that the Watson deal gets done for the 2nd overall, 34th overall, a 2022 first, and a 2023 first.

That leaves the Jets with 65M in cap this offseason to sign our rookies and a handful of impact FAs. They would still have a first round pick this year and a first round pick next year as well as the rest of their draft besides the 34th pick this year. The war chest is FAR from empty if we make a move for Watson.
