Ah ok. I've seen that argument around a bunch on twitter too (by beat guys too iirc) and it makes no sense to me. If we're good enough that people are poaching our OCs that's a problem I'll deal with.
That is the key here: yes, they can get more out of Sam than Gase did, I have no doubt. But they can also get more from a much better QB, whom they can draft with #2 pick. Just because there is a chance they can make Sam into a serviceable player, doesn't mean we should pass up an opportunity with #2 pick on a QB who could be made into a star. I am pretty sure JD and Saleh know this very well.
I'm with you. We as fans do this thing where we anoint every new HC/GM hire as our savior before they have proven anything of meaning to us. I've liked what I've seen from JD so far but we all liked what we saw from Mac his first year too. I think some skepticism is healthy. Regarding Saleh and JD, if they stick with Sam then I am out on them. I don't care that Saleh's a defensive mastermind or that Sam is allegedly a good fit for LaFleur's offense or that JD has respect around the league. I have seen more than enough of Sam to know he's not the guy. I can't be moved from this position. There's just too much evidence that he's really bad and probably not salvageable. I'm not a professional football analyst but I've been watching for long enough to know dogshit when I see it.
That's awesome that you say that and have that view. I thought the exact same about Carroll. Haha Very cool. Yeah. There's a lot of things I've found that have me pumped up for this guy. I think there is a reason why JD was blown away by this guy without ever meeting him before or having a connection to him.
I agree but I'll reserve complete judgment until I see the whole staff. The Rams were very smart to hire Wade Phillips who coached more football games than days McVay's been alive when they hired him. Even though people have varying opinions on him - same thing with LaFleur in Green Bay with Pettine and Nathaniel Hackett (Hackett being young but an experienced OC). The all-rookie model seemed to work with San Francisco though when they hired Shanahan so we'll see.
You probably won't be happy to hear they will be in line to receive 2 more if Martin Mayhew gets hired as a GM. Hes bing interviewed in that capacity....
Irrespective of the hire, I'm just happy Joe Douglas has made a decision on who he wanted and has made it early in the offseason. There are so many decisions to make this off season that we need as much time as possible: 1. Do we keep Sam Darnold or move on? 2. Which of our free agents do we want to keep and who do we just release? 3. Which free agents do we go after? 4. Which way do we go in the draft? I just hope we can get the rest of the coaching staff in place asap and get on with sorting this franchise out.
What if I told you...an offensive genius was actually an offensive idiot? Coming soon to ESPN, 30 for 30: Adam's Gaze
Let us see when the Jets lose a few games. Maybe now it be the players fault and not the coach? Never have seen so much positivity on this board. It's refreshing. Now the media and talk shows can speculate about what Saleh will do. I'm sure everyone has an opinion but my only concern is getting more and better players.
