Exactly. Can you even imagine if the Kansas City Chiefs with Mahomes, Kelce, Tyreek, and Sammy, traded for Derrick Henry? I know they just picked up Bell after JD cut him, but jeez. Add Henry to that squad and it's trophies for the next 7 years. Even our own Jets in '09/'10 got within 15 mins of the SB twice with a great oline and a serious running game. I don't get fans that 'only' want an air raid offense and think a running game is boring. Watching our own team run the ball and the other team helpless to stop it is golden! The way football was meant to be played! Fans that only want a FQB and passing passing passing should go become fans of a good arena league team....
This was awesome man! Thank you for postingl Just listened to this while eating dinner. Definitely intrigued by Smith now.
I'm down with Saleh, but Arthur Smith is also very high on my list. There are good candidates this year for once, and I like who Douglas has been prioritizing so far. Maybe he can convince Smith's dad to buy the team . Put Arthur in FO with Douglas, and hire Saleh to coach. Move team back to Queens in the new FedEx Stadium. Win, win, win..
There's a lot to unpack in that video posted above. A lot of really solid stuff about him coming from a writer very well connected in the Titans world. A few points: - Is very well respected by the players and very well prepared. - Has been involved in every side of the ball throughout his career, including heavily on the defensive side. - Many people in both the Titans organization and outside the organization credit a lot of Henry's success on the system that Smith runs. - The same with Tannehill. Runs a system designed for QB's like Tannehill that require far less reads and more quick decisions. Limits the mistakes. All around, sounds like a very intriguing candidate.
Amazingly enough, not everyone who comes from money is an entitled d-bag as you seem to think. His father served two tours in Vietnam and earned two Purple Hearts in his time in the Marines. He built FedEx from the ground up. Doesn't really seem like your typical 21st century billionaire like you're relating him to in the trust fund twins we have as owners.
I'm talking myself into Smith because with him learning under Munchak, I'm sure we will have very strong line play under him. The Titans had the luxury of a high priced guard and two high draft picks at tackle but man they were dominant with Henry the past three years (year before with Murray too). I think we would be strong players for Najee Harris. Would probably have to skip over the Dolphins at 18 to get him though. He's not quite as bruising of a runner as Henry is but he is a much better pass catching threat. I wonder what coordinators we'd be looking at with him.
Then you don't like him for the wrong reasons. He is a coach that adapts his system to the talent on hand. Henry was not a star before Smith. Tannehill was thought to be a JAG before Smith. He saw what they could do well and built an offense around them. He will do the same thing here (i.e., build around the talent we have). We don't have a Henry, and we have a Tannehill ultra light. Our version of Tannehill is so light in fact, that I think he would opt to punt and start over with a new QB. I believe that our offense would look very different than the Titans'.
I still say Adam Gase was so bad, that all of these candidates seem pretty good to me. I read up on Saleh. Seems great. I read up on Smith. Seems great. I read up on Bienemy. Seems great. I read up on Daboll. Seems great. Doug Pederson? Not so much, but still a huge upgrade over Gase in many ways. That is the small silver lining after these 2 years of hell.
If the Jets want to go with Sam, I can see the interest in Smith. He helped Tannehill turn his career around. I like the hype that Saleh brings, but I have no idea what he offers as a HC. I don't know what goes on in these interviews, that's why I'll just trust JD with the HC evaluation.
lol Gase realllllly lowered the bar for sure. That said tho, I was not impressed with the coaching pool when we hired Bowles or Gase. This year there are truly some interesting candidates both in the college and pro ranks, although the college candidates are dropping out. Pederson is actually even better than any candidate I can remember 2 years ago.
You are entitled to your opinion, and trust me I do get the point of what the new HC is being tasked to do and the expectations that come with managing the whole team and not just one aspect. Contrary to what you may belief I want the same thing as the rest of my fellow TGG comrades in the next HC. What has Saleh done that makes him better than Arthur Smith? Kyle Shanahan is the key to that niners team not Saleh. I think you missed my use of the running game to make my point, the aforementioned examples are guys who had a well balanced scheme, which is just as important today as it was back then. The teams that can pass the ball in today’s NFL are led by legitimate FQBs and second tier QBs like Cousins, Goff and Dak. Teams that don’t have those QBs are going to struggle to keep up with the joneses because of the myth that you have to pass your way to victory to be successful. The key to that success is not being a passing team, it’s having the top tier QBs with weapons that allow for a successful passing scheme. You are discounting Smith because you don’t believe he has contacts or you doubt his ability to bring good assistants with him if he were to get the job, how do any of us know this? All of the coaches he worked with In Tennessee past and present have nothing but good things to say about him, I’m sure he has made friends within the coaching ranks that we don’t know about. I respect your opinion and we are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one Dean.
If you're correct and if Mike La Fleur is Saleh's choice as OC, then the offense could be very similar if either Smith or Saleh get the HC job.
The Jets could be in position to draft Najee Harris or Javonte Williams or Trey Sermon. Add in a better QB, and we could have a similar offense.
If it's Smith or Saleh they both seem like cool guys to crush some beers with at the very least. So they have that going for them.
