The other thing that I forgot to mention is that sometimes when a GM knows a coach from another team, it can work against that coach for two entirely different reasons. For instance, there may be something about Martindale's philosophy or approach that JD doesn't like. Perhaps Martindale double-crossed JD on something while he was with the Ravens. On the flip side, JD could love Martindale, but he may think he owes it to the Ravens not to steal a key coordinator from them. He also may think like me that Martindale is simply too old and couldn't be with the Jets that long, and he'd rather hire someone that can be with the Jets for a longer period of time. Spending a large chunk of one's offseason in interviewing and hiring a new HC isn't the ideal way to spend one's time during the offseason, and I'm sure that he would rather not have to do it again any time soon.
Im just waiting for them to hire Doug Marone or trade for Doug Pederson so we can storm Florham Park and take pictures in Chris Johnsons office.Im calling dibs on walking away with the dusty Lombardi Trophy thats hidden in the basement.(Theres no way they still display it its embarassing)
I was referring to fans who want 100% of our draft to go to the offense, zero to defense. That'd be great if we end up with an offense that can out-score Mahomes, but if not we better put something into defense too. I dunno, a pass rusher and a #1 DB maybe?
The Jets have been trying to win with D for 20 years and it doesn't work! Nobody slows those guys down much, if at all, and not consistently. The Jets' only chance is to draft a QB who is capable of leading the offense to put up those kinds of points and can keep those other offenses off the field.
Agree, however that shouldn't rule out one type of coach or the other. If it's a defensive coach, he better understand that you can't make it through 16 games to the playoffs without a good offense. If it's a offensive coach, he better understand that in the playoffs, with two good offenses going at it, the team with the better defense usually has a better chance of winning.
I hate to tell you this, but the Jets don't have a Vince Lombardi Trophy. Those are engraved with "Vince Lombardi Trophy" and bear a raised logo of the National Football League. The trophy that the Jets won in 1969 is similar in design but is engraved with "World Professional Football Championship" and bears the engraved logos of the National Football League and the American Football League. That's how long it's been.
