they we saying that jets QB had to be smart because with all the jets offensive movement that the jets QB had to read the defensive adjustments to that movement and that they had to read it very quickly. also said that some of CP's ints may be related to his making an occasional misread on the defensive switch. what do you think? anything to this?
Well, thats usually true with any INT for any QB. When they misread the D. There's always a chance for an INT.
we are what we are because of good play at the QB position. Chad has a good day (pass rating 80+) and we have won. Now its open for debate on why Chad is playing well O-line, receivers, i dont know but I know its NOT because of a solid run attack
I'm a little dissapointed on Chad's TD to INT ratio but Chad did do a full season and I consider him a work in progress.
As I said in the other thread, I think he is too quick to check down, and he sticks to his pre-snap reads too much, sometimes to the point of blindness. A textbook read isn't always the right one because the DC read the textbook too. I hate to agree with Herm...but...sometimes you have to go out there and just play, whereas Chad seems to overthink everything. The windows are really small in the NFL, you have to take risks without having a guy open at times. It boils down to this: do I think Chad makes the best reads in the NFL? My answer: no, he's probably right around 5 or 6. Maybe 4. Chad doesn't have the physical ability of other guys, so he really needs to be completely mistake free and be #1 to be an elite QB because of his limitations.
Well the way I look at it , this is pennington's Rookie season all over again. Its is first full year. He has to get use to playing and also learning to read defenses all over again. A year away from the game can really hurt you in reading your defense or offense also the speed of the game takes a while to come back to you. If pennington plays again next year for the jets and is a starter again...he'll be even better with a year of this system, and a full year under his belt.
Do you think Clemons could run this offense right now? Do you think he could handle all the shifts and line calls?
Chad routinely makes terrible throws under pressure. An example would be the numerous 3 yard dinks and dunks when the Jets absolutely had to have 7 on the play. His dumpoff underneath to Cotchery near the end of the Bears game is a classic example. 1:43 to play and the clock moving, down by two scores and out of timeouts, and you throw a 4 yard pass in the middle of the field? I'm sorry but that just was not an NFL caliber play. You throw the ball away if you have to but you do not pin it in the middle of the field with no chance at a long gain and no chance to stop the clock. Cotchery dropped the pass, limiting the damage, but it should never have been thrown in the first place. Chad is good for 2 or 3 throws like that in every loss. No hope but he lets it go anyway because nothing deeper is open. Sometimes you just need to throw it up long and hope, that beats throwing it short and losing every day.
