Sam has the talent to be a decent QB. Gase does not have the talent to develop such a QB. The Johnsons have NO TALENT or even KNOWLEDGE about football.
This summarizes our sorry state of affairs rather nicely. Well said VegasMav. BTW. Nice avatar....F/A-18?
Call me crazy and sentimental, but I would love to have someone like Chad P as our QB coach and keep Gase and his sidekick as far away from Sam as possible.
I was messing around on football reference today and realized that Sam has a lower career completion % than Mitch Trubisky by 5%. Sam also has more interceptions in way less games than Mitch and a lower adjusted yards/attempt than Mitch. Does anyone consider Mitch a franchise QB or even a good QB? It's just unbelievable to me that we still have fans who think Sam is a good QB. It's a total denial of reality. Literally all of the stats say otherwise lol.
You could be right, but I have yet to see many positiv player endorsements of Gase...Manning non with standing.
Only thing in Sam's defense is Gase is the worst coach in the league, and the supporting cast is also the worst in the league. So it's still possible that Sam is as good as Allen or Mayfield but has no chance to put up decent numbers here.
I believe so... for this season. I believe Gase has to make some big changes by week 8. I'm leaning towards him benching Darnold, and inputting Flacco, and firing the OC. Better ball play will save his job. Even if he only wins two games, this will put them in position to draft Darnold's replacement.
That's the nightmare scenario that will doom this team - Gase wins 2 or 4 meaningless games, screws up the chance to get Lawrence, and reaffirms the Johnson's delusional belief that he's just a "snakebit genius". If Gase is here after this season, I sure won't be.
AND ... The Dolphins stink ... and not only have their first and second round picks, but also have the 0-4 Texans first and second round picks. That could be two of the top 10, and four of the top 42. Buffalo is already on the rise, and NE will be NE as long as BB is around. We are in BIG trouble. That's why I roll with Sam next year and get as many picks as possible. I watch him make some incredible plays, and still believe that a good coach can develop him and win with him.
I see that's how he's listed now - I don't believe it was always like that. And he's Dowell Loggains. Is that the best guy available in the whole world? And, seriously - has anyone who ever went to a Jets practice ever seen Loggains working on technique with the quarterbacks? Has anyone ever seen him working one on one with Darnold on mechanics or foot placement? What about progressions? Does a single video clip show any of this? One still shot? Has anyone ever read a single sentence from any observer reporting this?
Palmer also had high praise for Christian Hackenberg. I'm beginning to wonder what kind of scam that guy is running. Does anyone actually come out of his camp a better player - one that he can legitimately take credit for?
He probably just figures Palmer took care of all that work and technique crap in the offseason so he can concentrate on what really matters. Assisting Adam Gase.
He also has Ken Dorsey as his QB coach, a luxury that Sam does not have. Dorsey was Cam Newton's QB coach also, and Josh Allen is becoming Cam 2.0, so I suspect that's the person most responsible for his development.
Agree!! Give Sam a chance with a Competent Coach.. If we are within the top five ...trade the pic and try to get multiple pics
Sam Darnold is 23 years old. He is 21 days older than John Elway was in his rookie season. He is 9 months older than Peyton Manning was in his rookie season. He is 2 months older than Tom Brady was in his rookie season. He is 10 months younger than Tom Brady was when he first took the field in 2001. People who are saying that Darnold sucks need to understand that he doesn't suck compared to his age group. He certainly doesn't suck compared to the all-time group of QB who played with crappy talent around them for their first 3 seasons. He is by far the Jets best chance to have a FQB in 2021 and 2022. However in order for that to happen everything around him needs to get better fairly quickly. Young QB's do not elevate the teams around them from suckitude to competent play. Sometimes they fit just right with a good team and elevate it to be a great team however the reality is that you have to have talent around a young guy or you're likely to hurt his career. The Jets made very bad decisions on talent from 2011 on. Really they made bad decisions on talent from 2007 on however they managed to put together a critical mass of talent for a 2 year run in 2009 and 2010 while they were doing that. Next year with some luck Mims is good and the Jets have sorted out the TE's and RB's and the OL is jelling some more and another big draft class is in-house and starting to get oriented. In this scenario the contributions of vets like Crowder and whoever else the Jets might choose to import will count for something and maybe the Jets can get off the ground again. In this scenario Sam Darnold is by far the best QB the Jets are likely to get to make an immediate contribution towards contending. It's just a scenario though. And the Jets have typically gone to the worst case when presented with many options. Hopefully Joe Douglas can steer us off of that path this time around. The best thing the owners could do right now is just sit back and let Douglas do the job they hired him too. They say that players really shouldn't read their press clippings until the career is in the books. The owners would make a good decision if they chose to ignore the media for the next couple of years.
I agree with all of this, except you didn't add: get rid of the thing that's making Sam regress: Gase. It doesn't matter whether the Jets would improve immediately (although I believe they would, especially Darnold), but it does mean they wouldn't sink any deeper. And it would signal that the Johnsons know they made a mistake and are ready to rectify it. Until Gase is gone we have to assume that the Johnsons still think he's a "genius" and will retain him, and that would doom any chance of the Jets improving.
