can we now target Kemoeatu?

Pretty self-explanatory, based on the thread title.

Much of the mumblings are that we're somewhere around 20mill under the cap. Therefore, can we now make a play for Kemoeatu from the Ravens? He's young, and ideally, what we want at DT to pair with Robertson.

Since much of this draft will be dedicated to Offense, I think we need to address something of need in FA. Kemoeatu is proven and fills a big need. This allows us one less position to use a Day1 draft pick on, and it's not risky because he's proven. Even if we wanted a DT in the draft (for depth), it lets us choose one later since Kemo/Pouha/Robertson would already be on the roster.

I realize Kemo will be heavily pursued, but since we have the $$$ to try and get him, we may as well make an attempt. If we sign him, it all but assures us that we'll fix the OL on draft day. The only thing I'm unsure of is what kind of salary Kemo will want. So, what do y'all think?

    cheers

I would love too. He would be great in the middle.

But I think if we should first set our sights on the other side of the line first (Lecharles Bentley). He should be our top FA priority.

Lets just hope the Eagles don't aggressively pursue him.

oh yeah, i totally agree about pursuing Bentley; but from what i've read, he's close to signing with the Eagles.

So, if not Bentley, then should Kemo be at the top of the list, our first dollars spent on solidifying the DT spot?

    cheers

Bentley came out and said it wasnt true. but i dont know how true that is maybe he is just tryna avoid the tampering charges the eagles would get for talking to him already

If we can't get Bentley, I would have no problem putting big Ma'ake on top of our FA list.

You know, I also heard he was close to signing with the Eagles, but then yesterday I read (and posted somewhere on here) an article saying Philly is also looking at Mawae. So we may have a chance.

I would love to add him, but I get the feeling his number will rise. There will be a lot of teams interested you'd have to figure, and the Browns are really desperate for a NT. Ngata won't be available at the Browns pick, so I bet they grab Kemoeatu here. However, that wouldn't keep me from being interested if I'm Mangini. He would be a great addition for us.

oh yeah kemoeatu would be a great addition to our defense. def him and bentley need to be our top 2 FA to go after. we probably could stay with the 4-3 cause d rob and vilma would be that much better with a beast to eat up blockers

Its unlikely that we will probably sign him. Teams that run the 3-4 will be drooling over this guy. The Brownies will probably land him.

As stated earlier they are desperate for a DT. Plus their GM Phil Savage was there at Baltimore when Kemo was there so he is really familiar with him. I would assume that he drafted him. Also the Browns have way more cap room to throw at him than we do.

so the Browns are seemingly major competition.

one thing to consider: where Kemo wants to play. if he gets similar offers from both us and the Browns, maybe he'll go WHERE he wants. i don't know the guy, but perhaps he'd rather play on the Jets or live in New York as opposed to Cleveland. I'm not naive, and I know money talks, but I wouldn't completely rule out this factor.

strong D? our D was horrible last year, but was just overshadowed by an even worse offense.

    both need work.

Kemoeatu would be great, but my #1 pick for a new DT would be Rocky Bernard.

The last thing I would want is another small DT.

i was about to say the same thing.

Bernard is good, but he's undersized for what we want.

we need a huge DT who'll eat up blockers, something Bernard isn't and Kemo is.

    cheers

Ma'ake would be my highest priority signing.... even if we only sign one FA, he would be the guy. You simply HAVE to have a good NT in the 3-4, and while I am one of those that still thinks Pouha could be the answer, I don't want to put my eggs in one basket. Bottom line, the 3-4 can work if we get him, if not, we may have to stay with the 4-3. There would still be questions at the other positions in the 3-4, but they are fixable.... having no NT is not fixable.

I think the Jets will look for a center in this draft.... if Mangold falls to us in the seond, he's our guy. If not, they will look for Eslinger or maybe Degory later on. If we don't get Mangold, and the rookie center isn't ready to start, the fall back plan would be to put Kendall back at center. That's why Kendall is still here. He's the insurance policy at the center position.

Bentley vs. Kemoeatu.... no brainer. We can get by at center, one way or another, but we can't get by without a NT. I don't think this regime will spend the way Bradway did. I look for only one big FA signing, and Kemoeatu is that signing.

    Hmm....

    Bentley OR BigRaven?

I'd rather have Bentley plus sign Washington to a 2 year deal while continuing to develop Pouha. Pouha improved as the year went on.

alright, so groom Pouha for 2 years... then he'll be 29 which is getting up there for a DT.

Assuming its a 4-3 defense (and not a 3-4), this whole size issue is IMO very overblown. Ferguson was 6'3" 305 pounds, not that big for a DT. The reason teams keyed up on Dewayne was not because the other DT wasn't big enough. The reason they did is because the other DT sucked.
