Doesn’t this all mean that we’re gonna double down on the run game and the short pass game? Might not be bad to pick up 6 yards every play.
So? Him taking a 4th round WR over Morgan doesnt move the needle at all. Youre saying that would be the difference between the situation now? No not at all. Depth would be an issue. Its just an issue of new shiny toy. And Becton may have been the right call.
There were good WRs available when we were on the clock that will probably have an impact year one in the league. Meanwhile the best case scenario for us is if Morgan never even touches the field.
Don't like what this says about Mims status and the severity of the injury. Looking like he's going to have a lost rookie season
I wanted CeeDee Lamb as much as anyone, but imo Becton was absolutely the right call and a better call than Lamb. Lamb is going to be a stud, but so is Becton. It wouldn't have mattered how great Lamb was, if Sam could never get the ball to him or wound up seriously injured.
They had to get Becton over a wide receiver. Strong offensive line makes receivers better more than strong receivers makes offensive line better.
This roster was so bad that one off season cannot fix half of the issues this team faced. We would all loved to have drafted the next julio jones. But lets be honest, theres not been a sure fire top end WR1 drafted in the top round, as often as solid linemen. Robby was undrafted FA, hogan undrafted FA. I would love us to have the next megatron, but id rather Sam have his head and body first. Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk
He took a flyer on an insurance policy and one that he wanted to make sure the Pats didn't get. I like the Morgan pick. Smart franchises draft mid-round quarterbacks while hoping they don't hit the field and flip them a couple years later. Garroppolo (although that wasn't the intention), Matt Schaub, etc. There are some others I'm missing. Regardless, it's a position of need with Darnold missing three games each year. I'd rather go into the year with Morgan as the backup to be honest. It's hard with an abbreviated season but I'd rather see the unknown with high upside than a backup (although Flacco was the absolute best option) journeyman like Chase Daniels or Drew Stanton. I do agree with you though - I wish we grabbed another receiver somewhere in the 3rd-5th.
^This. A strong offensive line has made Ryan Tannehill basically a franchise QB for the titans. He had a great year and is cashing in, due to a strong philosophy but also a strong offensive line. Their WR's aren't the greatest. Basically it's Brown and their fast TE (name escapes me). The other guys aren't great by any means. I do think Darnold's ceiling is higher then a Tannehill for example but if this offensive line can be a strong run oriented type team, it just transforms this offense and makes life difficult for opposing defenses, opens up playaction, etc, etc.
Clyde Gates--I love it. Was a total nobody for the jets, then wrecked his knee, and returned the next year. Rex Ryan giddily proclaimed "Clyde is ALL THE WAY back!" From WHAT? He always sucked. 3 weeks after Rex's proclamation, the jets cut Gates
JD drafting Morgan (BUQB) in the 4th is a perfect example of how a GOOD GM operates. The bread and butter of a team is much more than just a handful of superstars. GMs who use late round picks 'hoping' to hit a homerun while ignoring other important positions like punter, BUQB, kick returner, gunner, etc smacks of desperation. The Idzic 12 was exactly like that...he used all 12 picks so he could throw as much shit against the wall as possible hoping 'some' of it would stick, while ignoring the rest of the team. None of it stuck.
If the Jets most glaring weakness wasn’t wide receiver when they were on the clock for the Morgan pick then this post would be spot on.
Absolutely spot on. Just because we have been on our ass in the past about WRs, there is no way you go WR in the first with our putrid O line. First you protect Sam, then you give him weapons. I still see one more WR vet coming in soon.
I agree with you regarding the 4th round pick of Morgan. I wanted Douglas to take a WR at that spot--I think the guy I liked there that was still available was from University of Minnesota. Yep, IMO Morgan was the only bad pick by Douglas. Which also means I disagree with you regarding round 1--After YEARS of MacCagnan ignorance of OL , we needed Douglas to pick Becton in round 1 and Clark later regardless of any WR available. My opinion only.
I didn't mind the Morgan pick, but actually I think what will hurt the most is taking Jabari Zuniga over Bryan Edwards from South Carolina. At some point, you had to think Q wasn't coming back from that neck injury.
If some of the Idzik 12 actually stuck then we'd have had an extra WR and STILL no back ups, kickers, punters, return men, on and on. Remember when we had decent starters but NOTHING behind them, and when a starter went down so did our season? That's what happens when GMs don't use late round picks to stock the 'other' half of the team and instead use those late round pics shooting for the next Jerry Rice. Or trade away all our late round picks during the offseason.
