I think he was throwing off the "wrong foot" moreso AFTER the first injury. I blame this on rust or something of the like, from his rush back from the injury. I wish they'd just have started Feidler the first three games of last season....
i think that when people talk about armstrength, they mean zip on a throw like a deep out, not how far you can throw the ball. Any NFL quarterback can throw a deep ball with enough loft.
I wish the same thing. I hope that Mangini doesn't make the same mistake that Herm made last year. I would like to see Bollinger start the first 4 or so games. Work Chad in slowly, and I think he'll surprise some people.
The timing on routes was based on Vinny's arm at the time. Even though Chad was only taking 25% of the snaps in practice, he was forcing himself to try to get more velocity on his throws. I definitely remember hearing him say that his shoulder was sore a lot after trying to throw so hard.
A pitcher's shoulder is sore after he throws hard in a baseball game too. The doesn't mean that the shoulder is injuried, and it defintely doesn't mean that his shoulder will never be the same again for the rest of his career.
But shouldn't he be able to adjust his throwing motion to that? I mean, just because you change the QB, the WRs don't run their routes any different. The QB has to adjust.
Throwing hard enough, often enough leads to rotator cuff surgery. Or Tommy John surgery. It's also significantly harder to throw a tight spiral with a football than it is to throw a fast ball. (Nolan Ryan used to practice in the offseason with a football to keep his wrist action top-notch.)
Throwing hard, in and of itself, is not going to permanently damage a shoulder. It might make it sore, but this is far from being considered an injury. There is a much higher probability that Chad hurt his shoulder by either falling on it awkwardly with a 270 pound DL on top of him, or getting his arm hit from behind during his throwing motion.
Oh absolutely. The injury he suffered was surely caused by the hits he took. That was obvious just watching it. At the most, his cartilage may have been weakened by overuse, but the throwing motion didn't cause the injury itself.
