I think it would depend on how much they wanted their receiver of choice. But I agree, it's unlikely.

Right now, I don't really think there's a good trade down scenario.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying here. Sam's style and Gase's Offense are centered around hybrid West Coast offense principals. I really hope we see a jump for Sam in year #2 of this offense. The best way to do this is to protect Sam first and foremost IMO. However, I'm warming up to the idea of Jeudy as the pick @ #11 if the Tackles are gone.

Jeudy would be an ideal fit for this offense because of the crisp routs he runs, as you mentioned. Crowder and Jeudy running intermediate routs with Perriman, Doctson, Smith, and maybe AGG (who I love) would be a nice 6 receivers. Herndon working the the seam and we'd have some really nice young weapons.

IMO the 2” or 3” he lacks in height, he makes up with the extra 8” in his vertical jump.
Plus his hands are huge, biggest in the WR class by far, and you know what they say about receivers with big hands.
    OBJ hand size - 10”
    Watkins hand size - 10”
    Ruggs hand size - 10 1/8”

Re Tyreek hill comparisons: Rugs is 3” taller, has 2” bigger hands, 1” better vertical, and is slightly faster.

That being said we have Perriman as our field stretcher so I don’t believe Ruggs is the right fit for the Jets/Gase.

I disagree regarding Ruggs. His vertical leap will help but not that much. His arms are only 30 1/8" long. A 6'0 CB with 33" arms and a 37-38" vertical leap will have the advantage over Ruggs every single time in a jump ball situation

Let’s not forget, he had the benefit of playing with receivers that took the primary defensive coverage away from him. I’m glad he’s making a name for himself but he is not a number one receiver at the NFL level.

I honestly believe Lamb is the best receiver, also I know I might get killed for this but Golden Gandy is going to have a stellar career in the NFL. Guy pulls everything down, reminds me of Allen Robinson.

I could be wrong but I think Jets fans have a bad taste in their mouth for speedy receivers after the Stephen Hill experiment. I’ve noticed over the years most people here don’t seem excited about them anymore, and I get that.

But I cannot believe that anyone who watches Ruggs’ tape does not immediately fall in love with this guy. I’ve said before, do not be surprised if this guy is gone long before the Jets pick.

I could see him going to the Giants, Panthers, Cardinals, Browns, or even the Redskins or Lions if either of them trade back. I could be wrong, but the reason I believe he is not being hyped more is because there are a few teams that want him and no one wants to tip their hand.

In terms of height/weight he is on par with or bigger than guys like:
    -Antonio Brown: 5’10” 185
    -Odell Beckham Jr: 5’11” 198
    -Jarvis Landry: 5’11” 196
    -Tyreek Hill: 5’10” 185
    -Marquise Brown: 5’9” 170
    -TY Hilton: 5’10” 183
    -DeSean Jackson: 5’10” 175
    -Robert Woods: 6’ 194
    -Emmanuel Sanders: 5’11” 180

He has NFL size and build, and not a single WR on that list is as physically gifted as Ruggs with the possible exception of Tyreek Hill. Ruggs is much more polished than Tyreek Hill coming into the league.

People question his jump ball/contested catch ability.... First of all, it’s not his game, he’s usually too open. Second of all, 42 in vertical means the top of his head is elevated 9’5”, and a 6’ DB who let’s say is around a 36 in vert has the top of his head elevated to 9’. That means Ruggs’ view and leverage is 5 inches higher than the DB. A scenario in which that is not good enough will happen rarely, and it also is under the assumption that the DB is running stride for stride with him and they jump at the same time which also will not happen often with him.

It truly boggles my mind to see the logic and behind why this guy isn’t the most coveted receiver on many teams’ big boards. The tired phrase the NFL is a copycat league is true, and the Super Bowl winners just won because of Patrick Mahomes and because of Tyreek Hill. Yes many players contributed, but they are the two most impactful players on the Chiefs.

If the Jets have the option, they should be drafting this guy.

I was all in on Jeudy/Lamb, but that’s because I had not really looked at Ruggs and was turned off by the idea that his speed is what makes him a first round guy. He is much more than 4.27 speed.

I respectfully disagree with you on the bold. It doesn't matter where the top of his head is. Arm length is important. That 6' DB with a vertical of 36" probably has 33" arms, not 30" arms. DBs are getting taller and I believe vertical leaps are getting bigger as well. That same 6' WR who has a vertical leap of 37" or 38" and 33" arms is going to disrupt, deflect a pretty good amount of those passes intended for Ruggs. And as you said yourself, that's not his strength. Still, because of his lack of height and short arms, he has a smaller catch radius than Jeudy or Lamb, and probably one-third to one-half of the WRs in this draft class.

I respect your knowledge and opinion and admire your passion for Ruggs, but sorry I just don't share it.

Just listening to ESPN Radio while in the office and Tannenbaum was on. Says Ruggs would and should be the first WR off the board. Says he is comparable to Tyreek Hill and just an absolute game changer and he's more than just an Olympic sprinter - he's a legit football player.

    Just for shits and giggles

Ruggs is -124 on DKs Sportsbook right now to be picked at 14.5 over/under. I don't like how they are leaving Denver out, but it would be a really good bet if it was 15.5.
Ruggs is +400 to be the first WR off the board.

CBS ran a mock draft, it was pretty interesting, they had all their analysts choose teams and ran a mock draft with trades

in their mock draft Ruggs was the 1st receiver on the board to be selected - by the Raiders @ 12

oh yeah; and our Jets traded down to Denver at 15. I believe the compensation was a 3rd, and Royce Freeman. The Jets selected Jerry Jeudy with Denver’s pick, number 15.

Kinda wish that guy on CBS was the Jets GM now ha

Yeah I am seeing now a quite of few mock draft picks having Jets move down 4 and 5 picks to grab an extra 3rd and maybe 5th. Now Ravens are always known to draft many 3.4 and 5 rd picks.

That would never happen. Jeudy will be gone by 15.

If I am Joe Douglas at this point with the draft just days away, I know I have done my homework particularly in how in evaluating all the potential picks at 11 for the Jets ...probably an OL or a WR. I dont think there will be a trade down>>>trade downs means you are risking higher ranked quality players for more value/quantity or gambling your targeted player is still on the Board

That said, I dont believe our GM will buy into some last minute hype over Ruggs, who obviously is a great talent

I could be wrong, but imo Douglas has Lamb and Jeudy fitting in more with the position of need/scheme that Gates has in place over a shorter swiss-army knife player like Henry R

J.D. is setting up a trade down scenario with the Eagles and 49ers. Both have been rumored to be trade up candidates for Ruggs. So rumor leaks out that we love Ruggs. At least we only have one week to find out!!!

I like all 3, and I like Ruggs makeup but he's still #3 out of Lamb/Jeudy/Ruggs

Ruggs may have the speed but out of the 3 who is the best pure receiver, best ball skills, highest football IQ, most complete and constantly improving player...it's Lamb
