The last several weeks the Jets have been lining up in a kind of hybrid 3-4/4-3 front with Ellis on one end, KVO and D-Rob lined up as tackles and Thomas standing up in the normal position that the right defensive end would be in. Barton or Chatham basically slides outside of Thomas and assumes an outside linebacker position for the down. I've noticed that D-Rob in particular seems to be benefiting from the arrangement because it forces the left guard to account for Thomas and gives D-Rob a bit more play on the snap. Anybody else seen this happening and have anything to add? I only picked up on it this last game although thinking back I can remember CBS introing the Jet's D as a 4-3 in both the Houston and Buffalo games. Watching the D yesterday I was not able to pick up a pattern from when they go 3-4 and 3-4/4-3 hybrid, it seems to be on a down to down basis.
I think they playing to their strength and personel and it's working better and better. They were saying something about that on ESPN the blitz how the Jets have a good understanding on what the can and can't do. Which is attributing to their success
They are a draft away from fully employing the 3-4. Once the weak link Kimo is replaced the other pieces will fall into place. D-Rob will play better and Vilma will be able to be Teddy Bruschi
