The offense is NOT built around him. They are tailoring it for him, but the SD offensive scheme is a mid-range passing scheme which we all know is not Chad's strength.

I think you can win with Chad but he still has bad games against good defensive game plans. If a team can drop 7 into coverage and still get pressure on him he has serious problems. Most qb's have this problem. He also seems to go downhill quickly, his accuracy goes to crap when he gets shaky.

But he is also hurt by the lack of skill players on this team other then Cotchery and Coles. They really don't have a tight end to spread the field and keep the safties honest.

They key next week is to not turn the ball over. Worst case scenario they punt. But when he starts turning over we almost always lose.

Everyone seems like a star when they are sitting bench. If Clemens was really better than Chad right now, he'd be starting.

No, he's Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde.

Not consistent enough for my taste...

It's been real but I'm ready to test the waters after this season....

Mangini will start the QB who gives us the best chances of winning. Only way Clemens starts is if he clearly is the better QB in 07. I can't see it happening right now, but we'll all find out during next years training camp.

Which would be better in the NFL? Jeckel or Hyde?

Who the heck knows? But I certainly want him behind center next week, and that is really all that matters right now.

As for next year, we'll just have to wait and see. Who knows if Pennington gets better with a year to work on QBing and not rehabbing. And who knows if Clemens is for real or not or if he is even ready or not.

Do you want Coles as our WR three years from now? He hates the CS.

Do you want Vilma at LB or will it never work?

Do you want Dyson as a starting CB for the next three years?

Do you want Thomas as the edge rusher?

Do you want Kendall at guard?

Do you want Baker as a tight end?

Do you want Miller on the team if all he can do is return kicks?

Three years is an eternity in the NFL.

If a defense is a top 10 or top 5 pass defense, it's for a reason. It means a lot of QB's have played poorly against them. Most of the QB's who do ok against them are the elite-level QB's. Chad is very good, but he's not elite, I can admit that. But for God's sake, we can't have elite players at every position.

I swear, with Jets' fans when a player isn't top 5 in his position, he's garbage and we should get rid of him. Vilma has a bad game? "Let's get rid of him". Robertson has a bad game? "Let's get rid of him". Brick? Same thing. Chad? Same thing. It's so constant it's scary.

Ok, I decided to go ahead and vote.
    I voted NO.
I wouldn't vote to keep a quarterback as long as the team isn't making it into the playoffs. And, as of today we just don't know yet. But, even if we had made it into the playoffs at this time, I'd still have reservations about three years.

I want a marquee running back also.
Even though I do like Washington and even Houston.

i agree with this...as long as we are winning...2 years is good enough to groom the next guy.

what kind of question is this....if he plays well, yes....if not, no..... it's that simple....i'd say that he and kellen should battle next year in TC and if chad wins and struggles early next year then let the future begin in kellen clemens.....

I totally agree...we cant have a team of LT, Peytons, Gates, Vikings run D etc etc....unless they play for beans....I like the characters of Leon, Ced, Chad, Coles, Cotch and the rest of our hardworking unassuming guys...

at least we aint the bengwads

Unless Clemens demonstrates significant progression, there should not be a long-fought battle in training camp. Pennington is the leader of the offense; if he spends the entire preseason "fighting for his job," it's unlikely that the offense will continue its growth as a unit.

uhhh i really dk about that....it's easy to say after this game but he has been very inconsistent this year.....if we finish 10-6 and strong then maybe i agree with you.....best case scenerio is kellen in his third year unless chad takes us very far next year

Pennington has been an above-average quarterback this year, and only three teams average fewer rushing yards per carry. Considering that he is a quarterback who depends heavily on play-action (and thus an effective ground game), this is an impressive accomplishment.

    Koopa,

The truth is that it's extremely unlikely that Clemens would be the superior talent next season. That improbable scenario notwithstanding, I see no reason for going through the detrimental charade of having an open competition. Can you offer one?
