From Link: The Jets are pulling the plug on one of their worst free-agent signings ever. Cornerback Trumaine Johnson has been informed by the team he will be cut, The Post’s Brian Costello confirmed. The Jets signed Johnson, 30, to a five-year, $72.5 million contract before the 2018 NFL season. Johnson turned out to be a huge disappointment, playing 10 games in 2018 and just seven games last season, earning $34 million guaranteed over the two years while intercepting five passes. He was placed on injured reserve in November while dealing with injuries to both ankles. Johnson being released had long been expected. However, Johnson hasn’t yet been officially released as the team may wait to see if a new collective bargaining agreement is agreed upon before finalizing the transaction. The move would clear $3 million in cap space but leave a $12 million dead charge.
Sad to say but he was a fluke with the Rams and took advantage of the Jets with a huge contract. We'll be better off without him but it's sad that he gave us two seasons of nothingness outside of being a horrid CB. I think Trumaine was worse in coverage than Justin Miller, Dee Milliner and Kyle Wilson... Combined; he freaking sucks.
I wonder just how hurt he got when he got trucked on that INT return against the Lions. He really never looked right.
Hopefully this will be a lesson learned going forward. You can't be the team to pay the player as a culmination of their efforts in the NFL. The effort just isn't there post contact.
The effort isn't there post-contact and for most of them the effort isn't there post-contract. When a guys dream is to sign a huge deal that sets him up for life and he chooses to do so with a team that is historically as bad as the Jets? Well they deserve each other at that point. I would not mind if the Jets didn't sign another team's free agent to a huge contract again, ever. Don't care who he is or what he did before coming to the Jets the odds are he's going to blow chunks for us and laugh all the way to the bank. Darrelle Revis in 2016: "I'm old." That was like sticking his finger in the owner's eye.
There is risk vs reward in free agency but I'm sorry, you will never, ever, ever find a SB winning team that drafted all 52 men. You will never find a SB winning team without a couple of big name free agents/trades in which were added to their roster(s).
He didn't say don't sign any FA's. He said don't sign another team's FA to a big contract. It makes sense. The best teams usually aren't the ones who give out big money to FA's.
lol. Bet you can not name me one SB winning team who did not add a big FA contract to their roster in order to help them compete... You can't...
That's because it's pretty much a mathematical impossibility that you can draft an entire team. Making free agency work doesn't require blockbuster contracts though.
This loser got 34million guaranteed..unbelievable The list of Macs millions down the drain for , Mevi$ Mo Wilk Fitz and this con man make Jets history..feh
