Is it just me, or was today one of the best one on one cover jobs we've seen from a corner in a long time? I'm talking about journeyman Hank Poteat who I believe let up one pass for maybe twelve yards on a long drag pattern across the field. This was the best shutdown corner performance from a player we've seen, since David Barrett took Plaxico out of that playoff game two years ago. I just wanted to give the guy some props, especially since he didn't have a team at the beginning of the year.
You seriously think he will be our #2? He had a great day yes, but I'm sure we can upgrade this position
He played great today but hes not our #2. People should learn by now one game doesnt make or break a player.
no doubt about it. The guy is miles ahead of barrett, miller, or coleman. He covers well, without having to give up the 10 yd cushion that the other 3 seem to play with
he doesn't miss tackles, wraps up very nice, doesn't get beat deep, and doesn't give up a huge cushion. Don't know what else you guys are looking for in a #2 corner. Lets see if he has a dropoff next week
He played spectacular today. I remember one great open field tackle for a loss and then they tried to pick on him and he broke up a number of passes. I definately think he is a legit #2
And Dyson, outside of that 1st TD, rebounded very nicely and played good man-to-man. I was pleasantly surprised to see Poteat play well.
I'll researve judgement about him until after the season, but her certainly is manning the no.2 cb position well.
I don't think CB is as big of a need as it was earlier in the season. Poteat can hopefully hold the fort for another year or so at #2, and hopefully Miller will develop and stop making the mental mistakes. The guy has all the tools, speed, toughness, the swagger, i think he just needs to learn to not make the mental mistakes.
I've been really high on our defense all year. The only real knock is that they seem to react badly when the offense throws dirt on the grave when it counts.
I think he has played more than just one great game and he improves weekly which is a big deal on this team
the entire unit as a whole probably had their best game. poteat was great, but lets not put him in the hall guys
The DB play of the game today was Eric Smith's break up of the TD pass in the 2nd Qtr. He started out on the LOS, selling a blitz and dropped back inito coverage at the snap of the ball. He timed it perfectly to the flag and made a great play by placing his hand in between the hands of the WR..knocking the ball out of his grasp.. and BTW he NEVER turned around he used the WR as a key as to when the ball was coming.. The overall play he made might have been the BEST play by a NYJ DB in the last 3 years....Fantastic
Oh Yeah!!... and then Smith stepped up on the crossing pattern and broke up the copmpletion 1 or 23 plays later...something that one of my favorites Eric Coleman has not been doing this year.
YES....GREAT play by Smith. He's been playing well. Overall, our secondary is, in my opinion, fairly set. It's the front 7 that has been struggling more. ALL of our sacks this year have been basically coverage sacks.
The unit played very well but the Vikes receivers also helped out with some dropped passes of catchable balls. Also, the Vikes team in general made a ,ot of boneheaded plays. But I agree the secondary played very well.
