I agree... I want an edge rusher and Corner as much as anyone. But we saw this year that our defense can play without it. Thats with a ton of injuries and bad choices by the previous regime. Our defense can be worked over in free agency this year. We need to focus on offense and making things better for Sam.
I agree. I think a lot of the problem is he needs an o line to allow him time and other piece to take the heat off him. A lot of this goes back to the line. With a good lile bell causes more trouble, Sam has more time. But also having 3 good receivers makes everyone better. If AJ Green is healthy and available he wouldn't be a bad option to pair with Robbie as a stop gap.
No point in not signing Anderson. We need depth at all costs. The offense next year is do or die in Sam's third year. If the offense doess't become a viable force under Sam then we are screwed. Just surround Sam with as many weapons as you can possibly give him.
This article talks about the ways Douglas can quickly improve the roster: https://nypost.com/2019/12/17/joe-douglas-options-in-challenging-jets-roster-overhaul/ One thing I disagree on is using the 1st pick - even a lower one from a trade down - on a CB. Yeah, I know good ones are hard to find, but this team needs to send a loud and clear signal that they understand that the offense is the priority for this year and a few more. In particular, OL. If I were to be okay with a defensive pick, the ONLY way would be for a stud, can't miss pass rusher, and even then I'd have to be totally convinced he was the 2nd coming of Marc Gastineau. It has to be OL, WR, Edge, CB, and maybe a RB. After the first two rounds, if a better CB than Edge was there, sure I'd take him, but the bottom line has to be on the "O" side of things for a change. This article is correct that Douglas has to get this ship turned around NOW, though, He may be a 1st year GM, but there will be no "grace period" for him to have even a 2-3 year timetable. This is the longest stretch of losing since the beginning of this franchise, and that has to end next year.
I'd be fine if three of the first four picks went to the OL, and the other went to WR/CB/Pass Rush. Depending on what they can get for Bell, that could easily be another top 100 pick that can go to an area of need. Darnold's development is my number one goal this year. If they keep Greg Williams, I trust the defense will at least be league average.
I disagree. Douglasbwill get 3-4 years minimum, and he should. He was given one of the worse situations possible. He has a franchise QB and a Franchise safety. Outside of that he has some good pieces in Mosley and Bell that haven't panned out yet due to injury or deficiencies on o line, and other pieces like Robbie who have expiring contracts. He has time to rebuild. Gase is a different story, next year maybe his last depending on his coaching with an improved roster. I think our best moves going forward are to cut dead weight and/or trade players we don't need. Cuttting Winters, Enunwa, Johnson and cutting/trading Williamson. Those kinda of moves... Then signing corners, o line, and maybe receivers and runningbacks... lots of depth. Then trade back in Round 1 get more picks and maybe trading back later in the draft as well. Focus purely on offense with the exception of if a edge or free safety or corner drops big time.. edge i could see drafting early (2nd or 3rd) if one drops a lot, others have to be top flight prospects dropping.
Bell is going no where... No one will give up above a 4th for him after this year and it makes no sense to trade him.
Clarification: When I said Douglas has no "grace period", I meant the fans aren't going to be quiet and accept anything but being in contention for a playoff spot this next year, not that Douglas should be fired if that doesn't happen.
We'll see. I like Bell, but its becoming clear the coaches dont love him. From what I've read, they had suitors at the trade deadline for him (although the compensation clearly wasnt good enough). If Gase really wants him gone, I think he will be. Having said that, I'd be more than OK if they kept him.
If Douglas brings in good talent, does his job via draft/free agency, but Gase fails as a coach to improve us, then anyone with a brain will excuse Douglas. At that point the blame goes on Gase and the Johnsons. We can have improved talent but still a bad coach... look at Dallas. I would be the first to defend Douglas if he does well no matter how Gase does.
Thing is any team trying to get him will want to give us a 4th and still make us pay part of salary. Its not worth it. Its like trading Adams and getting nothing decent in return. Bell will have a great year next year if he has a line in from of him.
He must be re-signed. From a undrafted free agent to what he's become imagine what he could do if he had a QB that could consistantly get him the ball year in and year out. What more could the Jets ask for? A homegrown Jet who's done good far exceeded what was originally expected from him he and Adams are the kind of players that deserve to get paid by the Jets. Re-sign Robby & Adams. Get rid of the disgusting mercs who come here to get paid then half @ss it the rest of the way. Bell doesn't half @ss it he just stinks now. LOL
No free agent signings ever again. Disgusting mercs the lot of them. We should only target players with irrational love of the Jets and northern jersey. That’ll field a team that can compete for years. With Rutgers.
I said maybe 2 weeks ago that he’d be looking for Tyrell Williams money. There is no reason to not give Robby the 10-12M a year he wants.
Yessir! I think fans on here will be surprised when they see what we re-sign Robbie for. $10-$11 is on the low end. Robbie would be a $14-$15 guy with an Oline that give Sam a second more. Look at what Gase said after the Steeler game. He took the blame for Sam's strip sack. Gase said it was his fault due to play calling, and that he shoulda called for a quick pass. This is the pressure Gase is under all game when calling plays. He knows it will be pure luck if he calls a deep slant to Robbie and Sam actually has time to find him and throw the ball. Anderson's lone long ball in the Raiders game required Gase to call a double reverse flea flicker to give Sam and extra second. That all goes away with a stout o-line, and Anderson will be a 90 ball, 1400 yard WR. IF joeD feels he can significantly improve our oline with FA and the draft, he will find a way to keep Anderson.
I’m hesitant to go over $10 mil on Anderson. I guess it all depends on the structure. He and Sam have nice chemistry which alone is worth a few mil but Anderson has dogged it far too often for my liking. The timing on his “breakout” stretch is a little too coincidental...
