There's a lot of things the Jets really need. This is the first year of a long-term plan by Mangini and Tannenbaum. The roster we see today and the roster that will eventually make us an elite team will have a lot of differences, in my opinion. I think the most important thing that needs to get done this off-season is along the lines. Get stronger on the OL and DL. It will improve our run blocking and run stopping, respectively. That's the most important thing. I'd like to see if we could get Michael Turner with one of our 2nd round picks, if not, we could probably fill the RB hole with a pick there. Washington has a nice future as a 3rd down, change of pace scat back type player. Houston, on the other hand, needs an elite QB and an elite OL to crack 4.0 YPC, in my opinion. Mangini has gotten a lot out of this team. But with a more balanced schedule, it's really only a 6-7 win caliber team. Lots of changes this off-season, and probably the off-season after that, as well.
maybe. i happen to think pennington has a lot of bad games. i am not interested in mediocrity, and that is what pennington promises. If starting a rookie might make us 7 and 9 and pennington makes us 9 and 7, I say find out about the rookie. The purpose should be to build a team that can play the last game of the season, not one that loses one to the Bills every year, one to Dolphins every year, and ususally two to the Pats. Let us not gforget that the last TD pass Chad threw in NE was really an INT by Jerricho Cotchery. I do not hate players, but I have never understood all this love for Pennington. I have had misgivings about the guy ever since the playoff game in Oakland. When secondaries get aggressive he cabnnot make them pay. He is average at best. Very high IQ on the field, but he cannot act on it. I am tired of the offense going sideways.
You can say that Pennington on an average day will be better than Clemmons will ever be. You've got to give the guy a chance. He will have every oppotunity to be the starting QB next year.
