So while speaking to a fan who drove 9 hours to watch this game Christopher Johnson was recorded by someones phone saying "Hopefully they show this week"hopefully this moron fires Gase before its to late https://www.nj.com/jets/2019/10/christopher-johnson-sounds-sick-of-jets-too.html
This is actually a good thing, in my eyes. It means he is not OK with the shit we have seen and is just as sick of this as we are. Hopefully that translates to him getting rid of Gase and letting Douglas find someone else. I also think he is very content with Douglas going into his first offseason and draft
In my eyes, it's a bad thing. We all have our doubts about the intellectual prowess of the Trust Fund Twins. In this day and age, with everyone carrying a cellphone and all kinds of "candid" comments being recorded, how stupid must an owner be to say something like this in public? Remember that this mental giant is the guy who will be deciding whether to keep Gase, and if he decides to can him, he'll be picking the next coach. All we can be sure of is that he wasn't on his way to a Mensa meeting when he made these comments. At least this guy doesn't walk around with that doofy Jets baseball cap glued to his head like his idiot brother does.
He needs to let Douglas hire the new HC( assuming Gase does get fired) because if he or his brother continue to interfere with the football decisions than this will never get better. I get that they are the owners but they need to stay out of the football related decisions.
why is it stupid for Johnson to say that? It's exactly how everyone felt after that NE debacle. I'm glad he said that as it shows he actually cares about the results of the games, something that we all have questioned before
He might as well tell the fan my brother and i have no idea what to do but we'll be damned if we sell this cluster fuck. We'll get it right one day! LOL
Man he didn’t just say hopefully the team shows up this week. He said hopefully the team ACTUALLY shows up this week, that one word is so much worse lol. Hopefully his next sound bite is hopefully Joe Douglas does a better job picking HCs than I did.
Owners shouldn't say this kind of thing in public. It smacks of George Steinbrenner in his crazy days. Support your people in public, and if they're not performing, ream them a new asshole behind the scenes. Hopefully, he's grilling Douglas and Gase behind the scenes. If you wouldn't say it at a press conference before the assembled media (and he wouldn't), don't say it in a casual encounter with fans. The other issue I have is that Johnson's comment suggests he sees the problem as the players, not the coach. If that's the case, he could use it as a rationale to keep Gase around.
again... why shouldn't owners say this kind of thing in public? also, I'm not so sure you can decipher if he is criticizing players or coaches, or both or either or, out of that one sentence but either way what does it matter. Don't both groups deserve criticism anyway?
I would rather the owner say " They had better show up this week or heads will roll " or " I fully expect them to show up this week and play a hell of a game " and not " I hope they actually "
Who knows? What someone says or insinuates has nothing to do with their actions or in C.J. and Woodys case inaction
Why shouldn't owners say this in public? It's not like the Jets lost one or two games. We have been utterly DISGUSTING to watch every game. He has every right to say something like this. And it shows the fans that he is not happy with the situation and despises it just as much as we do. Which is a good sign. We will find out if he acts on that disgust, but I find nothing wrong in his comments and am actually very happy he made them. It's a perfectly painted picture of what we are all feeling. I'm tired of the "nice guy" approach in public. We fuckin suck and Gase fuckin sucks. I am happy to see our owner acknowledge that and not blow smoke up everyone's ass
I saw this pop up on twitter last night and I view it from two angles: either Chris Johnson is aware that this team has been an unmitigated disaster this year and he's going to get rid of Gase, or he's just trying to sympathize with a fan who has traveled to see a game in jacksonville, while also not giving a shit and committing to gase. I'm hoping for the former because Gase is slowly but surely turning Sam Darnold into a shell of his former self
Hopefully that means Gase is a one and done... I highly doubt it and I'll be pulling my hair out next year too.
The johnsons are both fans and business men, I’m sure he’s not just counting his money and being indifferent towards the team as some fans think. He’s probably embarrassed as hell amongst his fellow owners seeing the debacle that this team has become. Let’s not forget, after the first round of interviews for a HC, Macagnan and Johnson were not impressed by any of the candidates, they were going to move in another direction with interviews. I’m happy he’s expressing this, I just hope he does something about it, especially if it means firing Gase after one year.
A loss to Miami is going to seal his fate, might even be a mid-season firing given the fact that AG is not a first time head coach
I have no issue with Chris Johnson saying this in a casual encounter with a fan, it makes him seem down to earth and understanding of how dire the situation is for the fans every Sunday. I'd be more pissed if he tried to sugar coat things and make it seem like everything is fine. But ultimately these are just words and at the end of the day, we will see how disappointed he is in Gase, and how much self reflection Chris has done shortly.
I think this is a VERY important video that surfaced. It should actually be plastered everywhere. It's super telling to what he thinks of the team at 1-6. The real question though, is whether or not he actually has the balls/smarts to fire Gase before it's too late.
