Anyone see the Jets making a run at these guys? Dwight Freeney, UFA, Indianapolis Colts Freeney originally signed for seven years in 2002, but having reached certain incentive levels in his contract has voided the final two seasons, making him a free agent at the end of this season. Freeney has posted double-digit sack totals in each of his four seasons coming into 2006, and has forced 23 fumbles in that time. He?s one of the top pass rushers around. He plays with an incredible motor, but he has been hampered by an injury this season, limiting him to just five tackles and no sacks. Yet, with some of the best speed at his position, many teams will be lining up for a shot at a player that can apply pressure on the quarterback quite often. Nate Clements, UFA, Buffalo Bills Clements should be the top target of teams looking for help in the secondary. He?s young, highly regarded, and very talented. Buffalo would like nothing more than to have him signed to an extension as quickly as possible, but his talent?he does have two Pro Bowl selections?may lead him to test the market. Without an extension, the Bills must decide if they are willing to franchise tag Clements once again to guarantee his presence on the gridiron for one more season. Since Clements has not been adversely affected by NFL officiating changes, most NFL teams will pursue the cornerback if he hits the market.
I like clements, but he reminds of ty law (no loyalty real selfish)..hell keep asking for money and not really be a team guy. Freeney NO..i would love him if we were playing the 4-3, but he does not have the size for the 3-4. Weve talked about getting run on all year for our lack of size. Herm went for speed for our TB cover 2, and now we are paying for it.
Clements isn't even a top 15 corner anymore. He's slowly declined, and lives on his name and what he did years ago.
Clements is overrated, and once proclaimed he should be the highest paid cornerback in football. Samuel would be the better option at Corner.
Samuel for sure. i'm actually hoping Clements is the top big-name CB Free Agent. hopefully it'll distract teams from pursuing Samuel and then we can sign him more easily. cheers
I really want Adalius Thomas who is a Free Agent next year. This would knock out a position we would have to draft and would make an instant impact
Barely better than Dyson, IF that...But this guy is going to command AT LEAST a $12 million signing bonus...I wouldn't be surprised if he demands $15 mil up front.
Adalius would be a great pick up. He's doing big things as a starter rather than a special teams star this season and would immediately be an impact on OLB along side with Bryan Thomas.
I just do not see us going after any big money free agents. It was not the Belly way and I do not think it is the Tangini way.
A.Thomas would be a beast on the D..... how much under the cap are we.... if we are under alot i can see us picking this guy up and using our first round pick on the O or Picking up Mike Turner and using the first round pick on D.
In a perfect world we sign Thomas and Samuel. We should have a good amount of cap room and after some deals get reworked I think in theory it'd be possible. I wouldn't mind trading a 2nd round pick for Turner and using our first rounder on a defensive lineman and other 2nd round pick on an offensive lineman. However the position we are trying to fill has seen alot of rookies come in and perform very well, so our money may be better spent drafting a guy to be a speed rusher oppossite Thomas and signing an available lineman.
I'd make a run at Asante Samuel as I said before as well as Adalius Thomas. Both of them would improve our team.
