mangini and payton were neck and neck for ROOKIE coach of the year. Not coach of the year.

LMFAO. Bill Belichick? Mike Holmgren and his Seahawks that just lost to the freaking CARDINALS? What a joke.

Coach of the year is often given to the coach that turns it's team around the most. At the very least Mangini should be on that list. The fact that he is not an option is an absolute joke.

I don't believe there is a "rookie coach of the year" award.

They were both up for COY. With Payton's team thrashing Dallas on National TV and the Jets losing to Buffalo just when the national media started paying attention, Payton is pretty much a lock for the award.

There isnt a rookie coach of the year because on average you will get a few coaches every year who are making there debuts. I believe it is Peyton after last week but still plenty of time to go.

im pretty sure there is no a official RCOY but thats what i thought the media nuts were referring to..so i didnt think there was much talk of mangini for COY....either way Payton deserves it more... his team is going to win the division after going 3-13, the jets are gonna be lucky with a 2nd place record in the division, and hopefully playoffs. It will be interesting to see where mangini stands in COY voting at the end of the season. he's easily top 3 if the jets make playoffs at 10-6.

I also think he lost alot of praise because the jets didnt look sharp at all last week.

im not knocking mangini...he should be on the list, hes awesome.

I don't think this poll means anything. Haven't you all noticed that all they did was take the coaches from the 8 division leaders (i.e. possibly the 8 best teams in the league.)

Before last week, the only two names that got mentioned for COY were Mangini and Payton. I believe that Payton is a lock now for the award, but one loss to Buffalo is not enough to make people forget about Mangini.

That poll was probably generated by a computer with no human thought whatsoever. We could have blown out Buffalo 41-0 and still Mangini would not have been on that list because we still would have been in second place.

Payton had way more to work with, at least on offense, than Mangini.

Brees, McAllister (both rebounding from injuries), Bush, Horn and the steal of the draft in Marques Colston. Their defense isn't great and their secondary is pretty bad, but having such a prolific offense more than compensates. Payton also gets additionally kudos for making the city proud of something (the team) after the devestation of Katrina.

Mangini has been great. He took a team that was projected to finish in the bottom 3 or 5 in the league and made them better than half the league. If the Jets ran the table (including BUF) than he would have had a real shot.

    I couldnt agree more.

There is something about this saints team, and the N.O./Katrina thing that just screams future made-for-tv movie. Especially if they win it all this year. The jets dont have the miracle working for them. Even if we won out, i dont no if mangini would have won it. But i mean, theres still plenty of season left. Who knows

It's not just based on how good your team is. It's what kind of job you've done with what you have. No one is better than Mangini in that area. That is my complete unbiased opinion.

F*ck Payton and the Saints. They have been one the biggest underacheiving teams in the past 5 years. They have lots of talent. bring in key guys like Brees and Simenaeu and you got yourself a Super Bowl contender.

Yeah! **** those guys for turning an awful team in a devastated city into Super Bowl contenders!

    ...wait, what?

To be fair to Holmgren, he has been coaching until a few weeks ago without Alexander or Hasselbeck in the lineup. Even in the NFC West, winning your division with Seneca Wallace and Maurice Morris is nothing to sneeze at.

Dino, i said it earlier, he should be on the list. And Holmgren has had a tough year....just not anywhere near the top of COY tough.
