I think we can beat the Vikings but i just dont see use winning in Miami. When we lost the buffalo game that pretty much ended the season.

No, wrong. The head-to-head comes into play only if there is a 2-way tie between the Jags and Jets with no other teams on the same record. In that circumstance it is the first tie breaker.

The only thing I wasn't sure about in a 3-way tie is if the process is used to pick one team and then a 2-way tie process for the next place, or if the 3-way tie process is used to pick two teams?

Yes, I remember. I heard it on the radio but when I saw the replay later I couldn't believe it, that kick barely got off the ground, changed directions 3 times (in a dome no less) and got over the crossbar with no room to spare (like the winning kick in the Dallas-Washington game earlier this year)...

No playoffs for the Jets if that 'kick' missed....

It is used to select one team above the two others. Once that team has been identified, the process begins anew to determine the better of the two remaining teams.

I'll answer another way with the following example:

Let's suppose the Bengals, Jaguars, and Jets all finish 10-6 (with all the other current Wild Card hopefuls finishing 9-7 or worse).

The first tiebreaker is the division tiebreaker. These three teams play in different divisions. This voids that tiebreaker.

Next to be considered is the head-to-head sweep. One of the three teams will have had to have wins over each of the other teams. The Jaguars beat the Jets but did not even play the Bengals. Also, the Bengals and Jets did not play. This tiebreaker is also void.

    Next is conference record.
At 10-6, the Jets would be 7-5 in the AFC.
At 10-6, the Bengals would be 8-4 in the AFC.
At 10-6, the Jaguars would be 7-5 in the AFC.

The Bengals win this tiebreaker and they advance to the playoffs.

Now the Jaguars and Jets remain tied for the final playoff spot. Revert to the two team tiebreaker. The Jaguars beat the Jets head-to-head. This would eliminate the Jets.

The Bengals would be the 5th seed and the Jaguars would be the 6th seed.

    That's what I suspected.
