Unless someone comes out of nowhere, Brees and LT have blown the competition completely out of water, LT set the record for TDs, and Brees is setting a better pace than Marino for the yardage record with already over 4,000 yards.
Brees has been amazing (the Fins would probably be about 10-3 now if they had gone for him instead of Culpepper), and is a very worthy candidate. Having said that, I voted for LT, because he is overwhelmingly the best player in the NFL. That's not the same thing as MVP, but since he's also MVP of a team that is 11-2, I think he deserves the edge, ever so slightly.
Drew Brees really swayed me last night. LT2 is by far my favorite NFL player, but Brees is playing lights out and has resurrected that franchise.
It's most VALUABLE. Not best stats. That said. The Chargers without LT are still a better than .500 team. Harder to say with Brees, but with how well their O-line is playing and all the playmakers they suddenly have, the Saints would be decent without Brees. My pick... Vince Young. He may not have the stats, but is there a more VALUABLE player to his team in the NFL. The Titans may still be winless without him.
You're out of your mind if you think the Bolts are over .500 without Tomlinson, he IS that offense, his presence on the field allows for an easier passing game. Sure, the defense is good, but he is a genuine superstar, the most dynamic and valuable player in the league right now. By Cinvis's definition of MVP, it would be Peyton Manning every single season, as he genuinely does carry that team on his back on a weekly basis.
A RB has to be completely out of this world to even get consideration for MVP honors and Tomlinson is certainly that but Brees has pretty much singlehandedly turned a franchise around. Got to give him the nod.
You give Manning too much credit (as most people do). The Colts are still a playoff team with Sorgi as the starter.
Two very good choices... I had to go with LT over Brees, though I think you can make a great case for either. I think LT carries the Chargers more than Brees does the Saints, and that Brees has more weapons for him to be successful than LT does. Also, LT plays in the AFC while Brees is on an NFC team. The NFC is just not that impressive.
An excellent point about Brees being in the NFC, something I didn't consider. It's between him and LT2 and I'll have no problems with whoever gets it, but Brees played so well last night.
gotta go with Drew Brees. I think the Chargers can still be a good team with Michael Turner as RB and they have a really good defense. Take Brees from the Saints and they dont stand a chance. Saints have been in shoot outs
I don't think its that much a shoe in for LT2. He's definitly having an OPOTY kinda year, but Brees is having an MVP season. They have no one backing him up and if you have watched them play(last night was my first time) Brees really is where that offense starts. LT2 is my favorite RB in the NFL and the best that I have ever seen play(I'm only 25) but I don't think he's MVP this year. This is just another point that in the NFL, the team rotates around QB play.
Are you kidding me!? He's off to the one of the most productive seasons ever in terms of yards. LT is a great player on a great team. Drew Brees IS the NO Saints, if not for him they're in the bottom of the league right now.
