Of course they screwed up. His a midget with a short fuse. He had 4 years as a starter and had good talent around him. Darnold today is a better prospect than Mayfield.
Bingo. Imagine the backlash if the Jets had pulled the plug a MONTH before the draft. Worse yet..imagine if Heimerdinger & MAC were retained despite the organization knowing it was a toxic set up? And frankly this beats the hell out of firiing him in late December last year or this year. There is now time to build a legit front office/scouting dept... Whats more important to folks...when we let the old GM go...or when we start looking for his replacement? This is undoubtedly the best timing for the latter.
Why? What has Gase done to inspire such confidence? I can understand people being happy that Mac has been fired but can't understand how they can throw their all in with a coach that has a huge amount to prove.
At his bizarre press conference they asked Adam Gase why he failed in Miami and what he will do differently here. He said he failed because he had to pick the players and do the GM work. He would be better here because he will be just focusing on coaching. 2 months later and he's running everything-
Mac should have been shit canned with Bowles. Timing of the firing bad but lets be honest. Mac offered Cousins 90 mil guaranteed, only bc Cousins rejected the Jets did Mac make the trade. Then he lucked into Darnold. His drafting has been atrocious. Thrilled that he is gone and if we hire Douglas from the Eagles who worked in scouting for 16 years for the Ravens and Ozzie it will be a home run. Look at the bums he picked Hansen, Stewart, Hack. Wish it was done with Bowles but getting rid of him at any time is OK with me.
If Adam Gase is half as good at picking talent as Amelia Earhart was in flying planes we will win a SB.
[ Agreed, but look who's making the hire: either Gase or Woody/Chris. No matter how mediocre or bad we think Maccagnan was, there are worse people out there, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Trust Fund Twins turn over enough rocks to find a really bad candidate. If, on the other hand, Gase is making the decision, nothing on his resume leads me to believe he should have that kind of power before he coaches even a single game for the Jets.
Then you fire him BEFORE you let him play around with such an important juncture in this teams long term plan. NOT after the fact. You cant see just how stupid that actually is?
Everyone's entitled to his opinion but yours is really out there. Mayfield was by far the best rookie QB last year.
I am super happy Regarding timing, they should have fired him months before they fired Bowles. I was ranting and raving why would we entrust such a loser with all of our cap space plus high pick. Perhaps the Johnson's were softies and decided to give Macc another chance; perhaps they realized that end of season sucks to fire too because it's not like fire Macc things are fixed. You need an entire scouting department and a coherent team philosophy to draft well. So waiting to end of season sucked too My speculation is that since FA, Johnson probably found out from calling other owners that we were taken to the cleaners by Leveon, i.e., there was no one close in bidding. Leveon returns the favor with a "no show" when we're trying to instill a culture. Not to difficult to imagine some colorful "I told you sos" between Gase and Macc So while the timing may be confusing, and maybe less than ideal (though I don't understand that fully), it at least abides by "better late than never." He was not a good talent evaluator. The anecdotes about him and his diligence of Q.Williams are beyond embarrassing. Q is not some 5th rough JAG. He's a guy that any team at the top of the draft should've known thoroughly, diligenced thoroughly. And while several of us may have our doubts about the team finding a bona fide GM replacement that is no reason to keep Macc now. They have a runway to find their guy
Disagree. Look at what the Raiders did. They basically sent the entire scouting department home before the draft because they all knew they were getting canned and would likely leak to prospective employers. Someone can actually evaluate our team all year along with prospective FA's from other teams in real time and really figure out what we need. They will be working from the inside instead of the outside looking in. I like it.
Absolutely 100% yes. The chiefs fired Dorsey in the same manner. Consequently the Browns hired Dorsey under similar circumstances & See Ron wolfe "the packer way". The packers were a mess in the early 90's.They hired Wolfe under method "B" listed below and he was able to take his time building his staff but more importantly observe what was truly wrong w. the operation & what changes needed to be undertaken. Would you rather... A. Fire him in late December like all the other teams parting w GM'S...rush through the process of finding his replacement while competing w. other teams..rush through the process of hiring his staff while competing w. OTHER newly hired GM's..RUSH through QA of the roster....RUSH through putting a preliminary plan together to fly out to the senior bowl when other teams w. incumbent GM's have been locked & loaded since Mid December the latest? OR B. Fire him w. the longest time frame before a GM really goes into active duty in mid/Late December, have NO competition for candidates who you can take time to interview, have little competition with who he wants for his staff, have plenty of time to QA the roster & formulate a preliminary draft board/offseason plan w. a full staff in place in Mid December w. all the other incumbent GM's? Whats more important? When we let the old GM go...or when we start the search/ultimately hire his replacement?
I’ve been eagerly anticipating this day since this buffoon drafted Hackenberg in the 2nd round. That move, unto itself, speaks volumes of his inability to be an adequate GM. Good riddance regardless of timing.
Who cares if he was the best rookie last year. You don't draft a QB to lead you to 6 wins in his rookie season. You draft a QB because you believe he is going to be an elite player and put you in position to make the playoffs a half dozen times and maybe get a VLT. I'll take my chances with Darnold over Mayfield despite the fact that the oldest most experienced QB with the best talent around him had a better year.
Reports saying Gase didnt want Bell or Mosley. Great start to a season knowing your head coach didnt want you there. We are a fucking circus.
This all seemed to have come about a few weeks before the draft. The teams top 2 decision makers in the FO basically sabotaging their own long term positions. Could you imagine the backlash had we canned them on April 10th? Who would've been running the draft? Is it ideal? Absolutely not. But this is FAR from the first time this has happened. there's too much preparation, deliberation & intel involved w. a draft to just plug n play someone from outside the organization under a time crunch. You have to hope the soon to be fired GM gives a damn about the Prep leading up to the draft & sees it as an opportunity to audition for a future job. I guess the alternative would've been Gase or Chris Johnson running the draft w. little or no prep leading up to it.
