Exactly! I think he can be a real beast as a pass rusher, but Williams could use him to drop back into coverage occasionally to hide tendencies and to confuse offenses as to where the pressure is coming from.
The sad thing is it happens every single year in the NFL. Old fashioned, conservative CSs who have their systems will take a player who has a ton of talent and potential and plug him into their system, when it's not what he does best. The thing is that sometimes, he is still better than anyone else they could have drafted to play that position in their D, so it doesn't hurt the team, but just kinda sucks for the player. I've seen a lot of players over the years that I really liked get drafted to play in a system different than the one they excelled in college. Sometimes it's 3-4 vs 4-3. At other times its passive, read and react D vs attacking D.
If we keep this up, we don't HAVE to draft the BPA, we can afford to trade down and try to improve several positions and further improve the overall talent on the roster, and not at just one position.
Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. He was one of the best 3/4 OLB prospects and pass rushers coming out of the draft that year. He had 23.5 sacks his last two seasons and that was basically on just speed. Even though he didn't rush much in Minny he had one of the best percentages, if not the best, of pressuring the QB with the number of rushes he had. He needs to add another move or two and a counter move or two.
Barr is NOT a liability in coverage. He had 1-2 bad games all season in coverage and was terrific in the rest of them. Where do you guys did up this nonsense?
That's a good point, but with Barr and Adams, I'd worry less about his being a liability on 3rd down. If they don't trade Lee, they could always bring him in for Moseley on 3rd down.
You guys need to pump the breaks just a bit on Barr. To imply he's "great" in coverage is a big time stretch to say the least. I remember seeing him get TORCHED for not one, not two, but three TDs vs. the Rams this past season. He was getting ABUSED all night. Want to see the carnage?? Listen... I think in this system, he is going to shine in a big way. Think about this. He's been a pro bowl player 4 out of the 5 years he's been in the league. He is a NYJ now That's a big deal because he's young. Talented. Already successful in a system that didnt fit his strengths. He's a player that is so good, he can play in any system. That's rare AF to sign a player like this in FA. I mean... what's to hate?
That was ONE game. Look at the rest of the games and read what NFL commentators say about his ability in coverage.
Even Revis, Sherman, Sanders in their primes got beat in coverage. It happens. This ONE game doesn't mean he isnt great in coverage for a LB.
I feel like I’m just copy and pasting what i said in the crowder thread but man, I’m hyped about this signing as well. Barr is a complete LB. if they want him to cover, fine. If they want him to get after the QB, fine. People just need to realize he isn’t going to be a 10-12+ sack guy.
Except I can GUARANTEE you that he will not be heavily used in coverage, as has been stated numerous times.
Right...and that was while playing out of positon. Dude is going to be rushing the passer this year 75% of the time.
