If the Giants want him, the could trade ahead of the Jets to land him. The Jets only have any say if he's on the board at 3.
There was article a couple of days ago in the NY Daily News or Post I think on this same subject.....I disagree with the notion that the Jets would not trade with the Giants in this situation. Why ? They’re afraid whatever QB they select will outshine Darnold ? Please if a team is going to think like that that team will never win anything . I would like to think if the Giants call the Jets on draft day and offer a reasonable package ( assuming the Jets are comfortable moving down ) the deal can be done and the Jets can expediate this rebuilding process.
Rams may trade out of 1, but 49'ers are likely staying at 2. I am OK with trading down with Giants but.....they have to pay 50% premium in point value.
Rams? I thought the Cards were picking first! I can see either trading back. If they recieve an offer and can add multiple picks, they will. The QB needy teams are picking pretty early so they won't be moving far.
The most likely spot in the draft for a trade back is # 4 Oakland.( Qb needy teams eyeing the chance to draft the best Qb on their board) . Let's face it there are three players that are on another level in this draft.( N Bosa, Q Williams, and J Allen). Can't see any of the three teams missing out to draft one of those players. Now Oakland might have three first round picks in this draft, but they also have a lot of needs.( total rebuild) There are Alot of pass rushers that have similar grade that they would definitely look to trade back - to acquire more draft capital. Hopefully the Jets without a second round pick don't try to recoup that by moving down and missing out one of the three top players in this draft.( Jets track record with second round picks is a blessing not to have a second round selection).
I don't think it's one of those three or bust for us. I'm open to trading down and taking Little, Harry, AJ or Hollywood Brown depending on how far we trade down.
The Cards could benefit greatly from a trade down scenario. They have a ton of needs . Is be surprised if they don't make it known that they are open to a trade, same for the Jets. All 3 are set at QB and would likely jump at multiple picks. The Raiders could be looking at QBs too. Gruden could try to trade Carr for cap relief and the opportunity to draft " his" QB. As for the Jets trading back, they would get more than a second. Gotta figure if they are the team to trade back, they get this year's second, a day 2 pick and next year's 1. Regardless of the draft value chart. It never comes into play for a QB or early first round pick
You can never say that a team won't trade back if they get the right offer. With that said there are really two teams in the top 10 who might want to draft a Qb. ( Giants, and Bronco's). The Jaguars are a win now team who need a veteran Qb( Foles, Bridgewater) , and aren't going with a rookie Qb. There is zero chance the Raiders draft a Qb at number 4. ( they will draft best pass rusher) There isn't a slam dunk type of prospect at Qb that teams will be willing to trade the farm for .( this is where you talking about possible giving up next year number 1. Clemson Qb was coming out , you're talking about potential mega offers for the top spot. Again the best team is the Raiders where a team will be willing to move up for one of this years Qb. No team giving them a future number one to move up for one of this year Qb prospects. Second they probably will be be willing to take less to move back.( still can get the pass rusher they want by moving back). Every year fan bases all dream that there teams going to be able to drop back , and pick up a bevy of picks. There has to be a Qb that moves the needle( create the excitement), and I don't see that in this years prospects. Let's see what happens, and I'm on the record saying if a team moves up for a Qb it will be at the Raiders spot at four.
I don't know that the Jags or any team are going to be looking at Bridgewater as anything more than a backup. He's a great kid but he wasn't anything special pre injury, want able to beat out a very raw rookie here and looked pretty bad his one start for the Saints even though he didn't have the starters Brees had. I could see Tampa, The Giants,Jax and or Denver looking for a QB. All need one. Jax would benefit the most from a young QB. They still have to eat $16.5 million of Bortles contract and adding a QB like Foles at $20 mill plus will mean releasing players to cover that . Tampa can't rely on Winston. Elway has said Keenum is not the answer in Denver. Manning has this year at best. Getting a rookie to sit behind him for a year would be smart. It's going to come down to the Combine and pro days. If a couple QBs impress, they will rise. It happens every year. No one saw a trade up for Wentz or Mahomes. As I said, 3 is a valuable pick IF, 1 or 2 have not been traded to a QB needy team, you then have 4 potential trade partners looking to get to 3, not 4 because at 4 you can be leapt. If 1and 2 don't trade, and Mac doesn't trade back at 3. Then the 4 becomes the desired spot. There are teams like the Bengals, Dolphins , and Redskins who are also in need of a QB who could become players if the first 3 picks are not traded.
Good call on Bortles contract.( can't believe he was making that much). They probably could cut him after where they take half cap hit in 2019, and 2020. Probably looking at a veteran Qb . Someone not making that much that they can trade for- maybe Aj McCarron( don't love him but never know - similar type of veteran / usually suspects) The redskins definitely have to be in the market for one of the Qbs( Alex Smith career looks over) but they are drafting 15 . Their coaching staff under pressure to win now. So it's going to cost them probably next year number 1 ( 2020) in addition to bevy picks they would have to give up this year. ( This is where Foles probably ends up if I was a betting man.
Washington makes sense, but Denver could be a player for Foles. They have plenty of cap space, near double Jax and can clear another 11 mill by releasing Keenum. It's going to be interesting. One thing we can be assured of, someone will over draft a QB, and someone will over pay a QB.
Another thing, is won't be the Jets...which is nice. We might be able to screw over another team for draft picks, though.
It's nice to be going into the off season not worrying about who the starting QB will be isn't it....
It makes a lot of sense to trade back with Jacksonville at #7... Pick up a couple of Day 2 picks in the process. It could be similar to last years Colts deal, only in reverse.
It makes sense for the Jets but I don't believe it makes sense for the Jags. They need a QB who can play right now and none of these QBs seem like that guy. The Jags have an elite D and above average running game. Their best option is to sign a vet to play now (Bridgewater?) and draft a QB, maybe even at #7. I think the teams with aging QBs are the best option to trade up, like Giants, but only if another team is trying to get ahead of them. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like the best year to be able to trade down but hopefully that will change in the coming weeks.
