Yeah but they the news has essentially been batting 1.000 with the "guy to be named so-so coach for the Jets" reports. I would assume these reports are correct until proven otherwise.
All coordinators, both offensive and defensive have their systems. The really good ones are able to alter their systems as necessary to better fit their personnel. The OC would still need to know Gase’s base offensive system and know it well before they start modifying it to better fit the Jets personnel.
But wouldnt you say it was highly far fetched that we all were going to like every single hire for Gase’s staff? And all we know is media hearsay & speculation. This one was the highest probability of being an unknown or considered weak bc again..Gase is running the offense! Jim Kubiak wasnt gonna work here. We’re not winnning any games by stacking “names” on a piece of paper much less with a coaching staff
If Todd Bowles was still the Head Coach and we heard that Jeremy Bates was fired and Dowell Loggains was hired, I would understand fans being upset and concerned for Sam's future. That is not the case though, so I am truly surprised by the reaction to this hiring. Now if you are still anti-Gase like some fans choose to be, then yeah: you won't be happy no matter what.
Kitchens was not an experienced OC. He was just named OC when the browns fired their head coach and OC midway through the season. Bringing in an experienced OC, like Monken (who had been the Bucs OC for 3 years from 2016-2018) was a smart move. This is a very different fact pattern from the Jets - Gase is an experienced OC who has had success and seems to want to limit his role as Jets HC as much as possible so he can focus on the offense and Darnold. By contrast, the Browns want Kitchens to be primarily their HC and are bringing in others to operate as DCs and OCs.
I believe this was Monkens 1st year calling plays before that Koetter called the plays. Koetter was supposed to call the plays this year and he even took back playcalling for a game this year. So, its something monken is used too.
Okay, nobody is telling you to do so either. Just because others are, doesnt mean it's not completely justified either. All I'm saying. To each their own. I get your point. I do.
Eh, it would take a Steve Wilks like year but it’s not impossible if he really shits the bed. Jets need to be in win now mode with Darnold on his rookie contract.
The problems is we can only have a Steve Wilks year if Darnold gets hurt or doesn't improve. If it's the former, Gase keeps his job. And if it's the latter, Monken isn't going to come here. As far as win now goes, we aren't ready to contend yet. When the Rams brought in McVay, they had more talent on the roster than we do. Our best bet is to improve this year, be a playoff contender next year, and contend for the SB in Years 4 and 5 of Darnold's contract. Of course given who's running the team, that's a pipe dream.
