Disclaimer: 1. The Jets need to take it one game at a time, and not have any letdowns 2. It is very early for this discussion. That said, it is interesting to look at the scenarios: The division is very much in play for the Jets. And we can thank Vince Young. Look at the NE remaining schedule: @Miami Houston @Jacksonville @Tennessee Houston is probably a guaranteed win. NE win Miami has been playing well, and just had their hopes dashed by Jacksonville. However, as seen from last year Miami plays tough down the stretch and does not give up on the season. It is in Miami. NE struggled last week against Detroit and I just do not think they are as elite as they once were. There is the definite possibility of a Miami upset here. NE loss Jacksonville is very tough at home. In fact, they are undefeated. Just as we are not the best match up for Jacksonville, right now neither is NE with Brady as he has been shown to be suspect under pressure form a physical defense. If they lose to Indianopolis they will be playing for their playoff lives. If they beat Indianapolis they will be playing for their playoff lives. This could easily be a loss for NE. NE loss Note: even if NE wins this game it will help the wild card chances Tennesse. Well, a couple of weeks ago this looked like a no-brainer win for NE. But in the last two weeks Tenn under Vince Young has quality victories over the Giants and Indianaplis. It is in Tennesse, they will be very up for the three time SB champs and Vince Young can certainly throw a wrench into even the best defensive scheme. NE loss So NE goes 1-3 and finishes 10-6 with 4-2 in conference and 6-6 in AFC. Lets quickly look at the Jets. Scenario 1: NE as above Jets win out for 11-5 and win division outright. Scenario 2: Jets beat Miami, Buffalo and Raiders, lose to Minnesota. Jets finish 10-6 and 5-1 in division and win the division crown Scenario 3: Jets split Buffalo and Miami and beat Oakland and Minnesota Jets 10-6 4-2 in division and 7-5 conference. Tiebreaker: Head to head split. Division: both 4-2. Common games both 9-5 . Jets win division on conference record. Scenario 4: NE beats Tennesee loses to Miami and Jacksonville. Jets win out. . Jets win division with 5-1 division record. Scenario 5: NE beats Miami and Houston. Loses to Jax and Tennesee. Jets win out. Both with 5-1 division records. Both 10 common wins. Jets win the division with 8-4 conference record Scenario 6: NE beats Miami. Loses to Jax, Houston and Tennesee. Jets go 3-1 but split to Miami and Buffalo. NE wins the division with 5-1 divisonal record. What this all means: If the Jets wind up tied with NE they will amost certainly win the division. The Jets have a very good opportunity of winning the division even if they finish 3-1 as it is quite possible for NE to go 1-3 in the their final four games. It comes down to Miami and Jacksonville, both very possible losses for NE. First piece in the puzzle is a Miami victory. We need to be Fins fans this week.
I think we will win out and NE will lose to either will have to loses coming from either miami and tenesse or miami and jacksonville. This way we can win the division and e the jets we all love and i predict that Hobson Thomas Ellis Rhodes and HOUSTON will be huge in the rest of our regular season
Oh, its going to happen. The Detroit game was an embarrassment for NE, they are on the slide for sure. Just remember, you saw it here first... http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=359689&postcount=69 But I still can't be a fish fan, it would be just like them to lose this week. Bastards
I agree that NE is playing like shit lately but i gotta say i hate the patriots more than any team in the NFL even more than the dolphins and i know i might be the only one but i just hate them soo much
Didn't the Pats just beat the 9-1 Bears despite 5 turnovers? That was a key game for them. Sandwich the pathetic Lions between that game and a division game with the Fins and a lackluster effort vs. Detroit was predictable. I don't want to rain on your parade but since the arrival of Brady, the Pats are something like 34-6 after Thanksgiving including playoffs and that Loss? to Miami last year when NE played all their scrubs and even let Flutie drop kick an extra point. At worst they will go 12-4, but I expect them to win out. I do want the Jets to get a wildcard spot. I prefer the division to be stronger and more competitive. The divisional games are so much more intense when all the teams are competitive. Good luck with the wildcard, but the division still belongs to the Pats.
I'm not counting it as a realistic possibility until Miami and the Jets win this week. Even then, we still need to win out and hope the Pats drop a game.
If NE loses to Miami and Jacksonville and we win out we'd win the division on 2nd tiebreaker(div rec.).
It's still possible, but extremely unlikely. I'm concentrating more on the wildcard, but if NE loses, so will my perspective.
NE will win the division this weekend if we lose and they win. This is gonna be pretty tough. That Lions game was a killer. Damn you Lions!!!!
I like all those scenarios...well done. I think it's possible, but likely? no. You said it in the disclaimer...lets just take it one game at a time and beat a tough Buffalo team in a huge divisional game.
If you look at the other schedules (the other teams' with whom we are in contention) there are two teams that stand out as friends of ours. If those two teams win out, or in any event, kick plenty of ass, then this is going to be a huge help to us. Those two teams are San Diego and the Colts. I'm optimistic because I think both of these teams have the potential to really turn on and produce. If so, anything's possible for us. Of course, I'm saying we also have to win out or at least do 3-4.
The most feasible scenario is NE has to lose at Miami and one other game, while we win out. Both of us finish 11-5, Jets would have the 2nd tiebreaker, division record. Not likely, but that is the best chance. I doubt very much NE loses 3 of 4, they probably don't lose 2 but that's what we would need.
I agree that this is the most feasible scenario. I know it's not likely, but the way NE has looked lately? Hmmmm......
