I think it's safe to assume that if he's not franchise tagged we'll be making enquiries.

How pissed off will BB be if that happens. Good pick up if we can. So long as $$ is right.

We all know that the Jets will go after Samuel if he becomes a FA. That is exactly why BB will never allow him to become a FA. He is either signed long term or franchised..gauranteed.

We don't need him. Dyson, Barrett, Coleman, and Miller is a solid crew.

  9. He could potentially replace Barrett on the roster and would add the final piece to a very good and very young secondary. He has the speed and ball skills that is the only thing missing from our secondary being elite.

    Mangini would certainly like it.

I'm sure Mangini is a fan of him, but will the Jets spend big money on a CB? Mangini comes from the Belichick school of thought, CBs are fairly interchangable in their system, it's not necessarily worth it to throw big money at one guy. Samuel is certainly going to get a lot of money.

I'd be surprised if the Jets are really aggressive. If they do get him, then I think it would be a good signing, and it would show how much faith Mangini has in him to come in and play great.

He's so talented but i absolutely despise the guy...like most Pats players. It would definately take some getting used to.

this would turn out just like the branch saga. theyd do whatever in their power to make sure he leaves the afc east if theyre not willing to re-sign.

then again theyd be stupid to not re-sign him IMO

if available we should go after him. thats a given

Asante Samuel is 25 years old with 12 career interceptions, 4 forced fumbles and 47 passes defensed. The Patriots would have to be truly insane not to resign him.

Belichik may think that it's all his systems but it's not. Part of the Pat's success in recent years has been keeping the young guys, with upside and production, and letting the older guys go when their cap numbers/salary demands become more than their production warrants.

If they let Samuel go the Patriots defense will likely begin to degrade pretty rapidly as will their dominance of the AFC East.

You keep your good early-prime players if you want to build a strong team over a period of years and you let them go if you're willing to risk a collapse. Look at the Jets for exhibit "A" on this argument.

I'm never a fan of big free agent acquisition, but this one looks juicy. Young, well-coached and hasn't reached his top potential as of yet. Attractive target, if you ask me.

Would help us two fold. He's better than any corner we have on the roster right now and would hurt the Pats' defense. That's the type of pickup that takes a defense to another level.

Exactly what I was thinking. Hey, if it makes our female fans and our fans like him happy too, then Samuel's just the overall perfect player. Having Dyson and Samuel on the corners, with 2 talented young guys like Coleman and Miller on the nickel and dime, that's flat out deadly (especially with a secondary guy in the HC spot).
