Would love to bring Flowers back. He can actually be a workhorse and handle a load of carries, did it a few times at Oklahoma. Surprised he’s not on our PS.
They might not win another game if some of these injuries are of the nagging variety that never really go away for the rest of the season. I could see Maye landing on the IR soon as well. A real problem then rears it’s ugly head: with key players injured and a season lost, how many of these guys will go all out 100% of the time. This primarily concerns me regarding Sams development. I don’t expect a let down in effort from the OL, but possibly from skill position guys. Alligator arms, dropping on first contact, running out of bounds before it’s neccesary. Or none of that will happen at all. Lots of these guys are free agents at seasons end, after all. Should be interesting.
I always like Powell. he is my favorite Jet besides SAM. he has proven his worth over the years and has been under utilized,,, He had his share of injuries but he always seem to be around 4 YPC even with the shitty OL we had. I hope this is not as serious as it sounds and hope he can return and finish his career here...if not Thank you Mr. Powell for your years of dedicated service and what it is like to "play like a Jet." Some of these younger players could learn form his example... and I hope they have.
wow I didn't realize it was that bad i wish him the best. he's the longest tenured jet and a 4th round draft pick that's only been with us and has exceeded expectations every step of the way and a class act. I hope he's ok and can retire into a normal life
Crazy to sit here today and not understand how much of an impact injuries have had on this season. I can not imagine how good Darnold will be when he has healthy top rated wide receivers and a healthy top rated running back
So sad. Underutilized and underrated his entire career, shame for it to end like this. Prayers to him.
Poor Powell. He never complained about touches, just did his job. Hope he recovers, a Jet fan favorite for sure.
Well said. We could have done way more with him. Hope he plays this smart and finds work elsewhere off the field.
I was a big fan of Powell. Probably my favourite player over the last two seasons. Do we make a play for Le'veon Bell now that Powell is on IR?
That sucks. He's always been such a solid, underutilized player. I remember a few seasons ago he really turned a corner and became a more explosive threat. Big fan of his. It's an opportunity for Cannon and McGuire, however, and I'll be curious to see how they respond. Depending how the rest of the season goes, I wouldn't rule out bringing him back next year. He looked as solid as ever this year. EDIT: I see his career is in jeopardy. Damn... That's really unfortunate. I hope he makes a full recovery and his life outside football isn't impacted longterm.
Doubt it. If we were able to extend him upon trade, I think we would be very much in play (as would other teams) but us especially.
"Powell requires neck surgery to address a bulging disc, an injury that could be career-ending, Darryl Slater of NJ.com reports."
Extremely sad and unfortunate. Good luck with the surgery and be well. May the Gods give you another chance at the NFL if you want it. Powell, Jet for life, and a class act
This. Nothing to do with his availability--he's an exemplary Jet and consummate professional and this really sucks for him.
