3 weeks with a broken thumb. What? He's a safety. He doesn't need his hands to play. Tape that thing up in a big club and get back out on the field. what the heck http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...safety-marcus-maye-least-3-weeks-broken-thumb
Didn't Cardinals Safety Larry Wilson have a game winning INT with casts on both hands back in the day?
Well I expect Middleton to get the bulk of FS time. He did decent enough when Maye was out and was around the ball a bit. I really dont like Brooks as the FS, He seems to be better as a cover man safety near the LOS, kinda similar to Adams.
A broken thumb? And three weeks? Why can't he play through it? I remember seeing players playing with broken fingers before didn't Fitzpatrick play through a broken wrist in 2015? Sure it might affect his ability to hold onto ints but as long as his legs are fine I see no reason why he can't play though this 'injury'.
I don't know the severity of the break but these decisions are made by the medical staff, not the player or coaches. If it's 3 weeks, it's 3 weeks.
3 weeks in a rebuild season is not that big a deal. Think risk-reward. By playing him, will NYJ make the playoffs? Likely not. But could he make the injury worse, and lose even more time? Quite possibly. He's an important player in the Jets future plans, but by season's end these three games won't mean bupkis either way. It's not a tough decision to do the right thing.
And when he drops that INT you will be the first to scream and shout about it on here no doubt. I don't agree with playing players when injured, you only have to look at Q and the last two games he has played through an injury for us, what was his production in those two games, 6 targets 1 catch, a fumble, 1 run for 0 yards and 9 yards receiving and crucially another different injury by the end of the Colts game, he was dealing with a sore thumb/Hand in the Denver game. Crowell huge yards v Denver, sore ankle plays through it and gains nothing on all his runs bar one v Colts, he may as well have rested for what use he was in that game.
I completely disagree. This team has suffered from selfishness and a lack of desire for awhile now. (probably why they haven't won anything in awhile) A young, talented player like Marcus Maye has an opportunity to show guts, desire and leadership by example by taping that hand up and getting out there. That alone would be better for "rebuilding" the franchise than many other things.
Without any stats whatsoever to back this up, I've felt like the defense has consistently looked better with him back there. Definitely a huge loss with a monster offense rolling through.
Easy there Doc..... there's no need for him to go all Ronnie Lott at this stage. As the 1st good 2nd rd pick in ages, I'd prefer him to heal up properly
Doesn't he have a broken thumb or something? Playing with that would be the height of stupidity. Relax.
I'm sorry you don't seem to understand risk vs. reward. And there's more to it than simply that. I broke a thumb playing college hoops. Never had it set because it was February of my last year and I wasn't ready for it to be over and so I chose to just tough it out. Today I have problems with it. Oh, but I showed guts , desire and leadership, and my hand still hurts and there's not really anything that can be done about that except Advils and ice. There's more going on in a man's life than who we have to cheer for (or against) on Sunday afternoons.
you are just some guy.. he's Marcus Maye of the New York Jets. Why would your life story be at all relevant to this one?
That's fine and hopefully he does heal up properly but it's a missed opportunity for a young player to make a statement of leadership. That's all. Do you think Jamal Adams would be out 3-4 weeks with a broken thumb?
