as much as I love Sam....

    Teddy is legit.

There are no guarantees in life.

Trading a legit QB for a 2nd rounder who is hit or miss doesn’t get me excited anymore.

    Keep Teddy

    Win 11 games

See what life throws at you

    Don’t be too cute.

Welcome to the keep Teddy Long Term Club

NC and I have been rooting for TB..

I also want Sam to succeed but I think he needs a year under his belt like the other Cali kid Goff before he can flourish in NFL imo

Basically it comes down to this for me. If someone gives a 3rd or better for him or better yet we can package him in a deal for like a Khalil Mack, then whats the point in keeping him? We took him on a 1 year contract, he is going somewhere else no matter what. We are still a growing team and Darnold will start next year anyway. May as well get more pieces to surround him for the future. And no OP, we are not winning 11 games with this roster.

The point is you have a known entity top 16 QB vs a guy who played 4 quarters of one PRE season action

One in the hand vs 2 in the Bush

Always win as much as you can early. Never know what happens.

    But

Honestly based on your post - I don’t feel like you have the mental capacity to understand my argument

All good buddy. I fully apologize for my tone

What argument? You don't even write in complete sentences. You overreact because of one game, so now Bridgewater who hasn't played for a year and is now a top 16 QB? Also ASK ANYONE other than Jets fans if they we'd go 11-5 with Bridgewater and you will get laughed out of the room.

Obviously the W-L record prediction is an exaggeration just to make a point

Again- we are on different thought planes

    No hard feelings

Short of the highly unlikely scenario of Teddy leading us to the Super Bowl, I don't see any benefit in starting him. If he plays well, the Jets can't trade him, thus would have to take part in a bidding war to keep him at the end of the season. If he plays poorly, he diminishes his trade value and is gone at the end of the season. What's best for the for the Jets is for Darnold to play well enough to justify giving him the job despite a great pre-season by Teddy. If the last tape the league has of Teddy is of him tearing it up in the preseason, he would become the most sought after back-up in the league and on top of the emergency QB trade list. In this scenario, the Jets would either play out the season with the best back-up QB in the NFL or trade said QB for something of value. Either way we would be getting a good return on a minimal investment. McCown is perfectly fine collecting his $10 million as a the pseudo QB coach/back-up QB if Teddy gets traded.

Everyone knows that some contender will lose their QB for the season ... that is when you trade Bridgewater, as he will have maximum value at that point in the season. There's no reason to trade him now. If a Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees were to get hurt for 10 weeks during a preseason game, that would be different.

I have been saying for weeks that the Jets would be foolish to trade away Teddy before the season started.

-I don’t think Sam is ready
-The Oline is looking like hot garbage
-Teddy can help us win now
-If Teddy plays well, he only increases trade value
-Trade deadline I believe is week 8
-Only way we get any compensation worth a damn is if a QB goes down (nobody has yet)
-We all want Sam to be a FQB, but what if he doesn’t prove to be that?
-There are some rookie QBs that you can just tell won’t pan out after year 1 (Goff was an exception not the norm)
-The Jets need to keep as many potential FQBs in roster. Not ship them away for 2nd round picks.

I'm afraid for any of our QB's behind that O-line.

I agree but Bowles is too much of a coward to go that route. McCown is week 1 starting QB

Please realize that the play calling for Teddy this preseason has not been the same for Sam - It is pretty apparent they are easing Sam in to make him more comfortable. Also Teddy has yet to play against any teams #1’s at this point.
Let him start against the Giants and evaluate further then.

As for where Teddy may rank as a QB no one really can say because he has played in ONE season in his career on a stacked defensive team and decent pieces around him. Vikings were a mediocre team offensively the year he played and put up some high numbers against the crappy teams he played.

Teddy may be a top 16 QB someday, but Sam may be a top 3-5 QB someday.
If we realistically could make the playoffs, I would be all in play Teddy one year to turn over to Sam next year and then let him earn his keep somewhere else.

In reality though we are not making the playoffs and Sam will most likely play this season anyway. You could do that with McCown for 4-6 games and turn over to Sam then.

From what I see there is no doubt that Sam is NFL ready and can play this year, I am also confident that you would see a whole lot of growth in his development over the course of playing.
