The more and more research and thinking I do, I really need to stop doing both and get back to work, the more I feel that if the FO has their hearts set on a "Franchise" QB, then trade up to #1 and get it done. Offer the #4, Abe, if that does not get it done, then add a third or fourth rounder. I know it seems like a lot, and I would rather not do it, but I feel its better than taking Cutler at 4, since I truly feel the Titans will take Young at 3, my reasoning there is that they kept McNair for another year to groom him. If you want a franchise guy, a difference maker, the closest to a sure thing, then get it done, and get Leinart...thoughts???
Leinert = Chad +1  I have a feeling Young is that Randy Moss style of player. He will have his share of issues but he will kill you on the field.
I'm split also. While I want that franchise QB I don't want to give up the farm for him either. Also, like many others here I'm not sure of his arm strength. I don't want another brainy QB with little to no arm. I want a leader, a competitor, a scholar, and a cannon.
We are not trading up by packing Abe and our #4 and possibly a 3rd rounder if that is what it takes. Bottom line is that if Bush is selected in the first 3 picks (a lock for this to happen), than a QB will definitely fall to us. Of the 3, I think Cutler has the biggest over-all upside. I would then go with Young and Leinart sort of equal now. I use to favor Young over Leinart, but now I have to factor in that Young may not be the sharpest tool in the shed and will definitely require significant grooming time.
I don't want either Young or Cutler in the top 5. Young could take years to develop, provided he has the intellectual capacity to learn, and Cutler has shown me nothing other than "character" and a pro arm. Cutler is a workout warrior with average stats, and that's not a top five guy to me. The only guys I would be content with us drafting in the top 5, one way or another, are the following: -Leinart -Bush -Ferguson -Williams -X-
why move up to #1? why not see what the aints want for the 2nd pick, the jets wont have to give as much for the 2nd pick as the 1st and still will end up with leinart since bush is going to houston. This way we get leinart and the aints still end up getting a qb whether its young or cutler. Besides cutler staying in the south might end up being better for him and the aints. imo
Leinart all the way... Man, that's what I've been saying for ever. Leinart is the whole package, almost ready to go. Overpriced, underachieving Abe and a pick is more than fair. Mark my words, Leinart will be the gem of the draft!!!
They say his arm strength is not amazing but should not be a problem. But what were they saying about Chad? Probably the same. And on Cutler they say he has the power but not very good accuracy. I don't know what I would rather have. They say Brady doesn't have the strongest arm but he looks fine to me....so if Leinart hasas much power at Brady, go for it.
no, the Combine is the new hottest bandwagon thing. Leinart will be gone before 4. And they liked Cutler too much to trade up to get Leinart.
i will especially when he gets to the pro's and remembers what a pass rush is like. cuz i think the last time he saw one he was playing playstation.
I dont know, Leinart saw some pressure in against Texas who blitzed him consistently and he still stepped up nicely in the pocket and delivered the ball. My point here is this, Leinart is the only QB that can be declared a "franchise" guy. This is just IMO, but if I was certain I wanted to take a QB in the draft, I would make sure I got Leinart, if that is trading up with the Saints or Houston, it does not matter, because I feel Cutler and Young would be a waste at #4.
Regardless of the pass rush he faced, Leinart is the most can't miss guy out of the group. Young is an illiterate, Cutler has done exactly NOTHING, and Leinart is a guy who stepped in, was successful from day one, and plays in a pro offense in a major market where he is a celebrity. Obviously, you have to protect your quarterback, and success is difficult when you don't have a solid offensive line, but you can't hold in highest regard "well the guy hasn't seen a pass rush" when you're talking about a prospect that is an accurate, mature decisionmaker. If we're investing big money in him, I am CERTAIN that we will go out of our way to protect the guy, particularly after the way things have gone with Pennington. -X-
ok im sorry than no hard feelings, you are right from a FO point of view Leinart has "franchise" written all over him. im skeptic of all 3 qb's but moreso leinart. thats jus my lil bias though.
