Bryan Thomas is listed questionable this week with a shoulder injury. This sucks because he is one of our top blitzers.
He'll be in there, no worries. If not I believe Kassel or Chatam will be inserted in there in his place. Do you remember that play where Kassel came flying in on the blitz against the texans, but carr got it off in time? He has the speed to be ok for a game or 2 in case Thomas is out, but this is another mangini ploy. BT will be in there.
as long as Chatham doesnt make the field. the short time I saw him he was nothing worth paying atterntion to. Kassel looks pretty good though, but I'm guessing this is another FO stunt with the injury report
did you ever think you would read the words -"Thomas one of our top blitzers"? He willl play -- moore was in a cast yesterday for a hand injury also
Strange as it seems, Thomas is our top sacker this year with 5. That's on a pace for a very respectable 7 or 8 over the full schedule. I'm not suggesting that Thomas is a particularly impactful player on defense, because he's not, but he certainly has put up some numbers this year in the Jet's blitzing schemes,
it took him a while to grasp the DL--it has taken him a while to grasp the new defense. he may surprise in the future. i think he is fairly cautious when he is not sure of the assignments. and he is a soft tackler. jhe just lays guys down. he might be too nice a guy for all of this.
I think you're totally wrong here, Bryan Thomas IS an impact player on D this year, and I would say after Rhodes and Hobson, he is next in line to recieve props and be called an impact player. He has been solid all year, and has really hushed his critics. Lets give him props when they are due, and believe me this year he deserves them. He is an impact player for this team. Any guy that is a top sacker IS impact
Everyone is listed as questionable but they end up playing anyways. Its probably a minor injury or nothing at all
im actually excited to see what we do for bryan thomas this offseason. i hope we resign him to a 4-5 year deal 15 mil contract since he is a pretty good 3-4 OLB. i think he is too light to be an effective every down DE so he has finally found his niche. we also need to draft another 3-4 OLB to play opposite of him, either woodley in the second, or moses in the first.
Woodley in the second round? i'll be surprised if he drops out of the top 15. besides, i think the verdict on Thomas is still undecided. let's say we strongly pursue Woodley and take him; i think Hobson has been more effective overall (though Thomas has the sacks), and Woodley could easily start opposite Hobson. or maybe we resign Thomas and still draft Woodley. as long as we don't overpay to keep Thomas. if some other team wants to outbid us, let them have him. cheers
have to disagree with you here. woodley is 6'2 268 lbs which is too short and light for a 4-3 DE and quite heavy for a 4-3 OLB. however, hes the perfect tweener player, like bryan thomas, and fits the 3-4 OLB perfectly. as you can see, he isn't even ranked that high on the scouts boards and there aren't many 3-4 defenses that will think about drafting him in the first round. thus, he will fall to us around pick 40 (redskins's pick). hobson is not a 3-4 OLB either, he is a 3-4 ILB. he is too short 6'0 252 to consistently take on opposing teams offensive tackles who are 6'6. hobson will be the odd man out next year whether we go with moses or woodley. As the season goes on, and we see which players are able to make the transition to the 3-4 successfully, I think it's looking more and more like the DE spot currently held by von Oelhoffen is becoming our biggest need (D-Rob has improved dramatically at NT and there are a number of talented rushing LB prospects that will be available in the 2nd-3rd rounds.) Frank Okam could be a great pick, I think he would make a tremendous 3-4 end. We need to improve the size and strength of our DL, and Okam does that (6'5, 315).
