O.K. Then what's the problem with that? Why not let a team become forced to pay more than what they should pay?

Jets owner says they’ve pulled their offer to Ndamukong Suh

Free agent defensive tackle has lost what was reportedly his .

Jets CEO Christopher Johnson said today that after he and General Manager Mike Maccagnan talked it over and decided to rescind the offer they had made to Suh.

“Our thinking just changed a bit,” Johnson told reporters today at the owners’ meeting.

Johnson didn’t give any further explanation of why the Jets would pull their offer. It could be that they didn’t think Suh was interested in playing for them for any reason other than the fact that they have a lot of cap space and can offer him a lot of money, and having him on the team only to cash a paycheck wouldn’t be the way to get the most out of Suh’s considerable talents.

But whatever the reasons, it now appears that Suh will have to go someplace else. That may be what he wanted anyway, but losing the Jets’ offer could mean losing leverage in contract negotiations.

Image is everything. Nobody likes to be played. If the Jets ever intend on being taken seriously, they can't allow episodes like this to happen. They're trying to change both the culture and the perception surrounding the team. Allowing themselves to be used by Suh would have been just more SOJ.

Bravo to Chris Johnson and the FO! Well Done!!

I've said it once and I'll say it once again; Tyrann Mathieu & Ndamukong Suh were two defensive FA players i really wanted for our 2018 defense.

Mathieu alongside of Adams, Maye & Johnson would've been a fun secondary to watch under Bowles.

And an object who can not be moved within the trenches and one who demands double teams in Suh would've been exciting to see alongside of Leonard Williams.

And we had the cap space to land both. Imagine that.

Just imagine a core defensive group of Ndamukong Suh and Leonard Williams within the trenches, Darron Lee playing behind them along with the likes of Trumaine Johnson, Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye & Tyrann Mathieu roaming our secondary.

That 2018 defense would've been vicious.

I know this isn't Madden but i would have loved both. Or at least one of the two.

Still doesn't change the fact that NY's image was indeed; hurt.

They offered a big contract offer to a FA in which wouldn't even give us the time of day.

Might as well of made another team cough up more than what we were offering ala in order to make another team break more of their bank.

Trust me. You'll wish we had Suh when Leonard Williams has an awful season due to being double teamed all year long while our defensive line is gashed for 4.5+ yards per rush against and zero upfront pressure to opposing QB's.

We went from Wilkerson, Harrison & Richardson to just Leonard Williams. Who is going to be focused on, game planned for & double teamed (eliminated from games) like never before this up-coming season.

What was once was a promising D-Line is now absolute dog shit.

    Definitely kind of strange.

How do you offer the a contract without owner approval?

A 3x All-Pro and 5x Pro-Bowler who's started all but two games throughout his NFL career is now considered as being "a slug"?

I highly disagree. He's one of the absolute best run stuffers that I've seen and still a top tier defensive lineman.

Apparently there was a deadline of last week. When Suh didn't meet the deadline, they pulled the offer. The Jets did the right thing'

My understanding is the Jets’ offer to Ndamukong Suh came with a deadline. Deadline was late last week, leading to the offer basically expiring.

Agreed, he may be an asshole on the field, but he is not a slug. Saying he is is just a bald faced lie.

I agree, but we got to move on. Our d-line is going to be a weakness heading into next season, unless Mac pulls a rabbit out a hat and finds some stud in the draft 3rd rd or lower.

Yep. They got some beef up there and McClendon's a good player. Hopefully the LB corp improves as a whole on the edges.
