This is what I've been saying since the trade. The Jets seem to be fine with any of the three QBs. The Indianapolis pick was always going to be traded. Never even a question IMO. Once someone traded for the third pick, there is a damn good chance that the top three picks were locked in. Maybe there is some wiggle room in trading with the Giants, but I really dont think so. Giants remind me so much of the Titans a few years ago with Mariota. Everyone thought they were open to trading, when at the end of the day the pick was more than likely not available. Jets made an aggressive move to guarantee one of the top 3 QBs, because if they didnt, someone else would have. I admire how proactive they were for a change.
This squabbling and the various scenarios that could play out are just making me wince that Kirk Cousins didn't have a closet lifelong dream of leading the Jets for the rest of his career. Having him, Either Barkley, Chubb, or Nelson at your first draft pick and then 3 more 2nd round picks (at least) over the next year to supplement the team around him.... Damn it. Sooo much better and more certain than what we're looking at now. This promising offseason has just come to friggen pieces over the last week or so. We're basically headed for the iceberg now with a faulty steering system. I hope to god they hit the QB right..... that's literally the only way to salvage the ship now. If we somehow manage to hit a bulls eye on a franchise QB all will be forgiven and everything will be fine. But if we don't? Ughh..
I think there are three QBs we really like. I really think it's that simple. My best guess is that those QBs are Darnold, Rosen, and Allen, in no particular order (I wouldn't be surprised by any ordering - we could have Allen first, for all we know). The only other possibility is that we have very good reason to believe that Barkley is going in the top 2 picks (probably to NYG), and so, we expect to get one of our top two guys.
I was kinda surprised when I heard Bayless and Stephen A. suggest we should go for Mayfield. Skip's argument was particularly interesting, saying Rosen couldn't handle the NY media while Mayfield would thrive on it. I think he also mentioned Rosen's concussion problem. I'm not gonna put much thought to rumors though, I'd prefer Mayfield, but I think Mac will go for Rosen so that's who I expect will be drafted.
The QB haters circlin the wagons!!! Just keep playing it safe, ignoring the passing game...draft OL/Defense maybe an RB if there's time. Someday it's bound to work ,right? And if anyone questions it just mention how the QB's in this (Or ANY DRAFT) are not sure things. Totally ignoring the fact that no prospect at ANY position is a sure thing...including Barkely!! Trent Richardson was considered possibly even more of a sure thing than Barkely has...how'd that work out? They said Rodgers,Rivers,Roethlisberger, Eli, Stafford, Newton,Marriota, Winston,Ryan, Mcnabb weren't sure things either. And the name they always use to compare them to(Andrew Luck) has accomplished NOTHING in the NFL. These folks would rather have the Likes of Ryan Fitzpatrick,Josh Mccown, old Michael Vick at QB rather than actually take any sort of shot like every other CRAPPY franchise does at a certain point. I guess they like have no passing attack either. Keep ground & pounding...trying to build a perfect OL & Defense, right? Well they're gonna have mighty sour grapes come April when the team actually drafts a QB & shows even the slightest acknowledgement to modern day football w. an actual passing game. We've played it safe & done things their way for far too long now. I would never wish misery upon a fellow Jets fan...but the fear of risk, fear of success & fear of a respectable offense will be enjoyable to witness. Darnold,RosenAllen or Mayfield come on down!!
I truly believe that when this season is over, you will be very glad that the Jets didn't sign Cousins, not only because he didn't get the Vikings deep into the playoffs, but also because of the QB the Jets will draft or because of Teddy's play. Cousins wasn't the certain QB that you and others think. Yes, he has averaged throwing for 4,000 yards per season over the last 3-4 seasons, but he is awful when pressure is on on 3rd and 4th downs or the game on the line. I think all of you who clamored for him, would have soured on him greatly by the end of the season after he had failed the Jets time and again in key situations. If we had signed Cousins, we wouldn't have traded up, so Barkley likely wasn't falling to #6, and we weren't gonna get him anyway. We may not have even gotten Chubb or Nelson because Mac may have traded down and taken one of the best OT prospects, but I think he probably would have taken Bradley Chubb. This team has needed an edge rusher since John Abraham left, and Chubb would have fit the bill beautifully. He's too light for DE in our 3-4, so would have been playing as a 3-4 OLB or as a 4-3 D. If Bowles opted to go with a 4-3 to suit Chubb's skills, then Mac may well have drafted a DT or two in the draft, so it may not have been as great as you think.
I can't stand Bayless, but think in this one instance that he's right. Even broken clocks are right 2x a day.
The only person suggesting Barkley is clearly a massive homer of his and is suffering from being dropped on his head recently.
We can't move back in the mid/late 1st for Jackson at this point. We've already traded the chips we would have used to do that. In terms of high picks over the next two drafts we have the #3, #72, next year's 1st and 3rd. That's it. After we use the #3 we do not have mid-to-late 1st value left on our board in 2018 and 2019.
If only there was a love button on here. I cannot believe how long I’ve been on this board, I realize it when I think about how many times I’ve argued taking a QB in the draft with the people always saying wait til next year. Well this is the year that the Jets get it right, well at least get the position right. We can only hope they get the right QB. I have my preferences but in the end I’ll be happy with any of the 4 names being called out.
Browns will take Darnold Giants will take Rosen Jets will take Allen This is not how I want it to go, but this seems the most likely scenario to me. I hope I'm wrong and Rosen or Darnold fall to #3, but i don't think so.
I’d be really surprised if the Giants take Rosen. He’s the most NFL ready of the 4 and don’t see Rosen as a good fit with Eli still on board. I’d be surprised if they take any QB at 2 but almost shocked if it’s Rosen.
Too much analysis, we are taking a qb at 3 and the only questions are which one and could we make another move to 2.
