Not surprised that there is positive publicity about him. As of now, he's been a busted pick, and the Jets media is going to try and generate some positive press for him until he can back up his actions on the field.
Jets sign Gus Scott By Dan Leberfeld Posted Nov 23, 2006 The Jets claimed Houston Texans safety Guss Scott on waivers. The timing of this decision is intriguing. Not only do the Jets get a defensive back that Eric Mangini liked from his time in New England (Scott was a Patriots draft pick), but they can pick his brain about the Texans, who the Jets play on Sunday. Scott obviously knows a great deal about the Texans defensive playbook, especially their secondary. He can help the Jets exploit weaknesses. Also, he faced the Texans offensive every day in practice, so he knows a great deal about that playbook as well. This could turn into a real smart decision by Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum.
This has to be the most arogant and misguided statement I've read yet. The guy is a 3rd round pick. He was only going to play special teams and maybe sub in on specific packages this season anyway. What difference does it make if he plays 7 games or 16? The positive statements come directly from coach Mangini -- not the Jets PR department, except that the PR department posted the transcript of the press conference today. Your statement is one of those people post who feel that they know more about the players and the motives of the team than the coaches. From what I've seen of this regime, what you see is what you get. If they say he's earned his playing time then he has -- btw the statements about Schlegel were made in response to a question from a Jets beat writer. IF the Jets felt embarassed by this pick and wanted to cover it up they would have played him on ST from day 1 and been talking about him since then, not 10 games into the season.
How is a guy a busted pick already? He plays ILB in a 3-4 which is a very difficult position to learn. In 2 years if he still isn't playing then it's a busted pick.
whatever, i don't buy it. didn't we all dismiss the article about Strait giving the Bears an advantage? can't have your cake and eat it too. cheers
I really like Schlegel. I am sure it has been hard on him not dressing in the beginning, but he seems to just keep working hard. He keeps his mouth shut and works hard to get better. I really hope he makes it. He deserves it.
Hmm really? Maybe you should reply to this post to find out  EDIT: you got there anyway. Haha +1 for highflyer!
