For the past few weeks there have been many people on here that have wanted to see a quarterback change. Pennington supporters, including myself, have said that it is absurd to expect any quarterback to put up good numbers against defenses like Chicago and New England. However, people still wanted to see Clemens start. So, with Pennington's great performance today what are all you doubters saying. Do you still want him replaced? He put up good numbers and really led the team today in a game that we needed to win. I was really happy with his performance today. He was poised in the pocket and made excellent decisions and throws in third down situations. And to add on to all of this he did it without any running game. I was laughing at all the people who wanted him out last week. You were trying to run him out of town after games against top defenses. Seeing what you saw this week what are all of you saying now?
Great? No.. Pretty good. Yes Want him replace? As soon as we hang loss #7, if we do, I want to see what Clemens can do.
Chad is having one helluva season. I don't see how people want him out, especially since we technically are still in the "P Word" race. I am here to support Chad until the end. Who is with me?
The same guys that were critisizing him all week, were the same ones holding their breath when he was on the ground, and cheered for him when he came back in.
today was far from great...actually it was almost painful. i want pennington to be our starter, im not a supporter, i just think hes still our best chance...when he got hurt today, i was scared shitless....point is, he didnt prove to be good, or great. it was an average game against the texans.
i know i was. I was scared outta my mind for him... the fact he missed just one play is great. Maybe he isnt so soft anymore. All i know is, once he got up, he showed a spark that he hasnt shown in weeks.
Pennington didn't start hitting some main receivers (Cotchery/Baker/Dwight) until late in the game. He didn't make the run anything but predictable until late. I think we have been lucky this week because Houston was down and out. He really does need to do better.
Exactly. You can count probably on two hands the guys on this site that want Pennington to be replaced. There are also many guys on this site that think Pennington is an average qb that could never put up a great game against a very good defense. Apples and oranges...and quite honestly, I dont understand these threads..what is it that defenders of Chad dont get about those that have seen his limitations for almost 5 years. Can Chad Pennington lead the Jets to the superbowl? Sure..as long as he has a great defense and a great running game. Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson won superbowls..so can Pennington. But sorry..no cartwheels or sending chad to the hall of fame from here when he puts up good numbers against the Texans.
I was hard on Chad last week but I did not want to see him benched. I also expected him to have a good game today. These are the types of matchups that favor him, my concern is when another "Bears" game comes up and if he has what it takes to get the job done. He needs to have this type of game against better defenses, that's my beef.
I have been a pretty big Chad supporter. My only doubts about him involve his ability to stay healthy, and he is showing some toughness this year in doing that. He has been very average though, and I think has earned the scrutiny that people have had over him. Now mind the fact I said scrutiny, not outright hate. He's a good to above avg QB, and he's proven it. Like all QB's he's going to have some bad games. I expected a better start from him in todays game, but once he found some rythm he started firing pretty good. For this year - HE IS THE ANSWER. We lose a couple more games and I would not complain about Clemens getting some experience, but so long as we are still in the hunt replacing him is pretty dumb idea. Just because the Broncos are doing it does not justify our doing it as well. I am going to have some faith in the coaching staff to make decisions about who is our best chance to win with. So far Chad has not lost that confidence. I do however hope to see better play down the stretch from him.
What is the point of this thread? Pretty much everyone expected Chad to have a pretty good game today. These are the Houston Texans, J.P. Losman torched them last week. I think if you can't perform against this team you really shouldn't be a QB in the NFL. Chad was pretty bad in the first half, he looked really tentative and like he was afraid of being hit on every play, even though there really wasn't pressure. Chad should be fine the rest of the way through. Of course, a lot of QBs would be fine, and Clemens probably wouldn't do appreciably worse, plus would, if he gets enough exp quickly enough, give us a better chance against the actual decent to great teams in the NFL. Pennington should probably finish the year out, but there's no way we should start this guy next year.
The point of this thread is I wanted to see how people that wanted Pennington out last week would react this week. It is unbelievable how quickly people want to write this guy off. He made great throws today. I think most people take for granted the accuracy and decision making ability that Pennington has. If you watch many QB's in this league (eli manning) they don't make great decision and don't have much accuracy. There is no way Clemens would have gone 26-32 or something like that against any team, even the Texans. It is Pennington's accuracy that makes him good. When he has a bad game everyone rushes to point out the lack of zip on his throws. However, we forget that what makes Pennington a good QB is his accuracy and decision making
We all know that Chad can beat the Texans of the world. But let's not forget that he's had a number of consecutive bad games in a row (yes, he had a bad game vs. the Pats with a dozon horrible throws, rain or shine). The offense becomes nonfunctional against very good defenses because he doesn't have the ability to make big plays on his own, and has shown a great propencity to make mistakes this season in those situations. Our big plays on offense seem to always come due to exceptional plays from our receivers. I'm with JI04. Loss #7 should yield Clemens, since the playoffs would be something to see.
I think you hit the nail on the head with that last post on why people are even on the pennington bandwagon or firmly off it. On a good day he is accurate, makes great reads and picks apart an opponents defence with poise. What he will never do even on a good day though is hit a receiver on a bomb in stride. His passes have always got some float on them no matter where he is passing it, its just his style of play. This does mean that defenders can get a read on him and disrupt our passing game. I am a fan of Chad but im not blind to his faults. I think for Chad to be able to take us to the next level we will need a very good ground game sot that we can play off the play action a lot more than we can do at the moment. What people are taking for granted this season no matter what some of his throws are like is that he is managing the offence well. He is reading the other teams and is using what he thinks is our best chance to move the chains. With where our team is this season i think that this is no more than we could have asked for. Part of me is coming around to the fact that we may need to look at the QB position in the future but that does not mean that Ramsey or Clemens is the answer.
He definitely wasn't accurate and making good decisions last week. He usually doesn't make good decisions against good teams. As for accuracy, if you let any QB in the league throw mostly dumpoffs and short passes, they will have a high completion percentage. But generally, most QBs take a few chances and get a higher YPA, more yardage, and get some TDs. Pennington will never win a Super Bowl with the NYJ. Pennington will basically take you to mediocrity, and nothing better. If you're happy beating the Texans, Pennington is the QB for you. If you want to go out there and beat the Patriots, Chargers, Colts and Bears in a row, you're gonna need someone else. It's not a guarantee with any QB obviously, but you have a chance, and Pennington just doesn't give that to you.
Tell me all you weren't scared on Pennington's first pass attempt - another over throw of an open reciever which almost wound up being picked off! His first half was pretty spotty. Him or Schotty saw something and made the halftime adjustment to lead to great(for Chad) overall numbers. Long run though - things really haven't changed with Chad or the Jets in general. Idon't consider the former the guy to lead us to the promised land and I don't consider the latter a real playoff contender this season.
I dont think that point is accurate. I think Chad is equally on a par with Rothelesberger and he took the Steelers to the Superbowl on the back of a good defence and a strong running game. I think most people will agree that a certain P.Manning is probably the best QB out there but he has not come close to a SB showing yet and I dont think he will this season either, despite their record. In the past few years the Steelers, Bucaneers & Ravens have proven that you do not need a TOP QB but a smart QB and a solid defence. If we can improve our defence to the next level and get some more depth on the O-Line we could have a team that could make a run.
