I said Hack was a bust on here from the day we drafted him and it played out that way. Like I said, the greatest variable going into the upcoming 2018 season may be trusting Mac to build this franchise the right way and getting the right guys to make that happen. I'm not totally sold on this happening either. This is his make or break off season. I hope to hell he knows what the F he's doing and not relying too heavily on Charlie Casserly for QB advice. Dear Lord.

Young kids didn’t get a shot? There are young kids getting a shot up and down the roster. Of course I’m sure you are referring to the two young QBs, who one of which was given every shot there is to win the starting QB job this summer and failed miserably while the other probably should have spent less time learning the game by playing Madden and more time working on his actual game cause the kid doesn’t look like he’s improved anything since being drafted.

I do agree about drafting a QB last draft as I think Mac blew a golden opportunity to fix that position last draft. My guess is he still had hope in Hack at the time which completely evaporated after he failed miserably during preseason. That is on Mac and imo he gets one more chance this offseason to get that right and if he doesn’t both him and Bowles are sent on their bike the following offseason or sooner and the merry go round continues. There will be talent at the position available this draft, we just gotta hope first Mac picks the right one and second they actually make an effort to help him succeed by building the O around him.

Has it really been 3 years? This team had 1 year to rebuild the roster so far?

Year1 - No Rebuild / Spent a bunch of cash; won 10 games
Year2 - Tried the same roster, went to shit
Year3 - Rebuilding; team plays competitive with coaching lacks severe talent at key positions.

The first 2 years, yeah they brought back Revis, bad decisions all around could be contributed to Woody getting his hands on the team.

I saw enough from Hack during preseason to let me know he didn't take the step, its not hard to evaluate that. So what is your argument here?

You nailed it. Woody had his hands on this team for two years. He goes away and you see improvement. It's year one of a rebuild This is what a rebuilding team looks like. They make mistakes and you want them to learn from them and get better. I think overall they have.

Macc's made three mistakes with this team.

    1. Picking Devin Smith in the 2nd round
    2. Picking Hackenburg in the 2nd round
    3. Not drafting a qb becuase he wanted to give Hackenburg a chance in 2017.

I'm not in love with Bowles but think he deserves another chance. We can knock him for in game decisions, how the defense is a strength and his side of the ball and how they look etc. He seems to have changed the culture for the better. The team does play for him and I would like to see him with a real qb. My only fear is if we draft a qb it might take them three years to develop.

A rebuild has ups and downs and questions along the way. In year one it does look promising. I want to see what happens this offseason and see how 2018 plays out before final decisions are made on Bowles and company.

How do you make a mistake like that ? I mean, size and strength are easily measured, you don't need to even be a smart GM to realize that.

Unless an undersized guy has lightning speed and/or can bench-press 450 pounds, why would you take someone small for an inside LB position ?

I could live with the Hack pick in the 2nd round IF we were told why they took him there.

It's looking more-and-more like he was a 4th round pick by everyone, even the Jets, and the Texans fooled Mac into taking him 2 rounds early on false O'Brien rumours of taking him.

    That's amateurish !

Sorry, but I totally disagree. Hack has no chance to succeed. Neither Petty nor Hack have received anything other than scout team reps this season (running the opposing team's offense). They have had zero meaningful reps in the Jets' offense. This late, and against the meat of the Jets' schedule, neither really has a chance to show much of anything. At least Petty has a little playing experience from last season, albeit in a different offense with a different philosophy than this year. Hack has none. The Jets have two games left, against the Chargers and Patriots. Do you seriously think Hack would have any chance at all of being successful?

Petty is the only one of the two that has any chance of showing something. He got his first practice with the starters all year this past week, and got his first regular season game experience yesterday in the Jets' new offense. It takes time to develop chemistry with receivers and one's OL. There is also the rust factor. With two more games, and two more weeks of practice with the starters, he can possibly begin to shake off the rust, and develop more. If nothing else, and the Jets have given up on him, perhaps he'll show enough that the teams that were interested in trading for him last season will still have interest in trading for him and the Jets can get a draft pick for him.

Hack has zero chance of doing anything right. He couldn't even read Ds in preseason.

It'll always be a wasted year until we get a qb. Been a waste for awhile.

You're right, but you're wasting your time and energy. The knuckleheads on here who are pro Bowles and pro McCown will never get it. They're too dense.

Too dense? Pro McCown (LMAO)? Pro Bowles? You are Pro Mac and will do anything to defend him as if he's the best GM since sliced bread. Petty actually showing something is hilarious.

Amazing the hypocrisy in this message.

Mac and Bowles def deserve at least another year to see what they can accomplish. They can also improve as well. They've shown they can win with a large lack of talent and to be honest ... Look at the Browns and Raiders look at how they under-perform with the talent on their roster. Browns have some good players, so do the Raiders. Mac made some mistakes, so did Bowles, but they got a HUGE opportunity here. Normally, at this juncture we just fire everyone and we hire someone lesser like an Idzik, but I think Mac and Bowles KNOW what they need to do.

Can they deliver? We will find out.

How are young, flawed QB prospects supposed to win the starting job, when they haven't been coached properly and developed? The competition was an absolute and utter joke. Petty was given no chance. He got few reps early when it was most important, and never got any reps with the starters. His stats with the scrubs were just as good as McCowns' with the starters, and it certainly was harder achieving those stats with scrubs than with the starters.

The WCO is a complex offense. McCown had a lot of experience in that offense. Petty had none, and Hack either had none or had some experience in his freshman year at PSU if O'Brien's offense is some version of the WCO. The QB coach for the last two years was awful and Gailey knew he was retiring and didn't give a shit about developing young QBs for the Jets' future.

Petty has improved and developed, perhaps not as much as we would have liked, but one has to have actual game experience to develop. Your statement to the contrary is BS imo.

The year hasn't been a total waste. They gave Adams, Maye and other young players a chance to play and develop. They found out who could help them going forward. They found out that Mo had quit on the team (or helped cause him to due to the fact that Bowles is a clueless tool).

In the most important ways, however, this year has been a waste. It was a rebuilding year. With a young team and young QBs to develop, the Jets should have hired a HC with an offensive background, and hopefully one who had experience developing young QBs. They needed a HC who would instill discipline in the team, and set the tone for what the culture and expectations would be for the players.

Bowles should never have been brought back as HC. He showed no improvement, half the team quit on him last season, and had a cavalier attitude about players' attendance. Bowles publicly stated that it was ok for players to be late and allowed Mo to continue to be late or not show up. That sends the completely wrong and opposite message to the team, and just continues the same BS as when Rex was HC. So now the young players have been exposed to the slack and toxic Jets' culture. Nothing has changed. They won several meaningless games that only served to ruin their draft position, and in all likelihood will prevent their finally getting a real FQB prospect in the 2018 draft. He has shown that he has no ability or interest in developing a young QB. When given the choice, he's going to stick with the veteran. He knows that's because he has no clue what he's doing. He was carried to the wins in 2015 by a career season from Fitz, and to the few wins last year, and the 5 wins this year by a career season from McCown. People talking about Joe Willie selling his soul for the Jets to win a SB, well I think Todd Bowles sold his soul to get the few wins he's had in his coaching career.

There was zero reason to start McCown. McCown's job should always have been as a player-coach and mentor. Morton's and Bates' jobs from the day they were hired should have been to get Petty and Hack ready to play this season, and one of them should have started this year. The Jets needed to give both every possible chance to succeed. Then if they both fell flat on their faces, the Jets would have been in prime position to get their FQB in the 2018 draft, and they would have known beyond a shadow of a doubt that neither Petty nor Hack were the answer. As it is, little was done to develop either. McCown's starting just served to ruin our draft position, and hence a realistic shot at getting a FQB in the 2018 draft.

In short, barring a sudden development of knowledge and insight in Chris Johnson, there is ZERO hope for this team as long as the Johnsons own the team. Bowles will be back as HC. He'll continue to trot out a JAG veteran QB. He'll continue to coach in a cowardly, passive, ultraconservative fashion. He'll continue to be clueless regarding clock management, game management, and/or making in-game adjustments. He'll continue to be a slack, undisciplined authority figure, and Adams or some of the other young Jets will start getting bad attitudes and showing up late. The team will continue to commit stupid penalties. They'll continue to choke and lose games late or fail to come back because of Bowles' trying to win with D. The Jets' D will continue to fail even if Mac drafts a stud pass rusher, a quality CB, and a new DT in the 2018 draft, because Rodgers and Bowles are clueless.

Anyone who thinks things will change or improve, is delusional. The team will fall flat on its face again next year. The Johnsons will finally fire Bowles and Mac, and start all over again, but nothing will change or improve. They'll make more bad hires, who will fail to find a FQB, they'll keep trying to win with D, and they'll repeat the cycle every 3-4 years.

Most likely Hack doesn't have an opportunity to be successful. Petty doesn't either, to be honest. He's been terrible from the jump. They drafted Hack in the 2nd round for some unknown reason, so he has to see the field at some point. If your 2nd round pick goes 2-3 seasons without seeing the field, then everyone involved in his selection needs to be fired. The quicker we get Hack on the field, the quicker we can definitively say he's not the answer, and then we can move on from all three of these QBs. There's no reason not to play him at this point. We're eliminated from the postseason and Petty clearly isn't the answer, so why not play him?

Ok - Year 3 is year 2 in rebuild. Okay. Fine. Isn't that still [longer] than what Petty got? With more body of work? That's one full season, with another coming right up.

Yet two full season of below average coaching deserves one extra year while not even half a season of quarterbacking is sufficient to brand a kid as a failure, eh? With nearly god-damned every facet of the team taking nosedive, nonetheless?

That's some rock-solid logic right there. Kudos.

Petty has improved? Where? I saw a guy that still has the same issues with mechanics and accuracy that he had the day he was drafted. He doesn’t look to me like a guy that has improved his game in any way.

And this talk of him not getting reps, just stop already. He got back up QB reps, just like every back up QB that’s ever played before him. You think Foles has been getting 1st team reps? You think Keenum was getting 1st team reps? Nope, they were getting back up reps but somehow someway they were ready to step in when called upon.

Petty? Nope, he has looked like dog shit every chance he has gotten and he has gotten more chances than many 4th round QBs before him. He’d be out of chances if Hack wasnt somehow worse than him, if that’s even possible.
