http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-j...could-attack-quarterback-problem-in-offseason Too much to paste so read at your leisure. I think you'll find the logic pretty much spot on.
That was a good read. If we go the veteran route I would want Drew Brees. Should we go the middle of the road vet route again, then my choice is Case Keenum. Should the Jets go draft a franchise qb route, then I would want Rosen, and have McCown come back. If McCown retires, then try to find another stop-gap qb...Eli?
This is exactly what I already posted. If McCown wants to resign for a reasonable amount then he's our short term answer. Any of the veterans only come into play if McCown refuses to resign for a reasonable amount. MacCagnan drafts a top notch prospect in the draft. I would think the Jets can sit still and take Mayfield? The last two options Cimini mentions will never happen. If Mac goes with any of the last two options the fan base will turn on him. Mac is looking for some sort of verifiable data that says QB X is a sure bet. He's not going to get any such data. Drafting a QB is/was a total crap shoot. It's time for him to take the plunge, do as much work as you can evaluating each QB, then make a decision. Surround him with a great supporting cast. A cast that will aid in building the QB's confidence. Hope for the very best.
There is some data that can help him make a better decision, make sure he has great foot work, is lethally accurate, good arm strength and goes through progressions. I'm sure he saw Hack was lacking in some of that especially his footwork, when the OC at the time spoke of breaking down his mechanics and starting over, isn't that a huge red flag? Hopefully this time around he will be smart enough to go with the guy who doesn't need to be broken down completely. I said it before and I know some guys here don't believe it, but the top group of QBs coming out are not that far apart, some need to be polished a little bit more than others but none of them are the project that Hack has turned out to be. Personally I would not want Mcown back, let's move on with young QB development.
why drew brees? he is old, and is accustomed to playing 9 games a year in a dome, another in south fla and another in moderate carolina.not sure how he would fare here at his age and this climate.besides he does not end the immediate need for a young potential fqb. so big money to brees and still have to use a premium pick on the position? no thanks cousins is the only answer that gives you more than 1-2 years left in the tank , has high level production and has experience in the northeast. sign cousins and the 1st rd pick can be an edge or tackle or guard. trade it down grab a bunch of high level prospects and really stock the team. if we can't land cousins i'd take mccown back and look to the draft for a long term prospect.
The only thing I differ on is that IMO there's Rosen, and then there's everyone else, all of them having some sort of shortcoming. If we have the right coaching, we should be able to grab a very good prospect who should be able to play in his first year, or certainly start by his 2nd year. If we stick with Bowles & Co. all bets are off.
The only thing that concerns me about Rosen are the concussion issues. I believe he missed a couple of games because of them.
Nothing ground breaking in here. There may be all these options for the Jets but for Macagnan and his future as a GM, he needs to draft a QB and hit on it or this next season will likely be his last with Jets. He can’t get away with not being high on this QB class after passing on Watson & Mahomes last draft. He needs to identify the one he is willing to gamble his career on and get him. Any of the other options can and should go along with the rookie QB but it can’t be an either/or situation. It’s rookie QB and one of the other options or buh bye Mikey Mac. My guess is he’s banking his future on one of Josh Allen, Jackson or Mayfield or possibly Rudolph as one if not more of these will be available.
Macc is between a rock and a hard place this draft. He really can't stand pat at QB BUT he's not the kind of guy to roll the dice and gamble on a FQB 1st rd pick either. Especially if the price is gonna be high. He's 0 fer 2 drafting QB's and if he fcks this up, most likely he doesn't get a 4th chance. Macc is gonna have to go waay out of his comfort zone. No way he can justify BPA-D with the needs on offense being what they are.
Josh Allen 1) seems like a Mac pick and 2) will (eventually) be the end of the Maccagnan era. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Macc can't afford 2 QB picks not playing. It really doesn't matter who Macc picks at QB, you'd better believe they'll move heaven and earth to get this kid on the field as quickly as possible. Macc screws this up and he's toast here.
Honestly, and I hate to say it, other than QB, the needs on defense, namely a real pass rusher and CB are more pressing right now than any position on offense, followed closely by LT. Not since Abe has this team had a true passer that had to be accounted for on every snap, that has to change. If, and it's a HUGE if, Mac can sign Cousins then I am 100% on board with BPA at pass rusher, CB and LT with the first 3 picks...
To be fair with Allen, he's playing at Wyomind and they lost their 4 best offensive talents aside from Allen himself. And being at Wyoming, he's not getting blue chip replacements. It's why despite a very lackluster season, he's still high on prospect lists. Listen if teams feel he's Wentz Or something to that effect then you take him.
I'm nervous about signing Kirk "Romo" Cousins. He's good in fantasy football, but will he win the big defining games?
The worst thing to do is continue to go the hired gun route...it has not worked since Mr SB winner Brett Favre in 2008..a FA guy is old prone to injury and he just gets older with questionable production Brady Wilson Brees Big Ben Eli...... they ALL were drafted ,,some luck yes but that was the philosophy NOT the quick fix So if Rosen is Golden target him and no matter what the Jets spot is ...5 or 6 ...or whatever move heaven and earth to get him and dont worry about competing offers..JUST MAKE IT HAPPEN MAC and be crowned GM of the Year "Winners Make It Happen...Losers Let it Happen"
Allen has made great strides this year from last. His footwork is fantastic,he’s tall in the pocket,is reading through progressions & displays massive arm strength on big plays quite often on the run. His accuracy issues are about touch.Could be a gripping issue or just taking Alittle heat off the throws. Some timing patterns to get some rythym would serve him as well..haven’t seen a lot of that at Wyoming. I think he can start early & be a good game manager. What i Think remains untapped is putting the skills together to be the dynamic force he has potentual to be.If he gets w the right coach he could be the best QB in this class..
Sounds too much like what they said early on about Hack. I would need to see a lot more of him before I even remotely felt comfortable with him over the other big names.
