I have never been a fan of Bryce Petty. Another typical Big 12 QB who padded his stats in a conference that doesnt play any defense. At this point its safe to say that Petty is awful and wont be on the roster next year. Give Bryce the game next week to be the sacrifial lamb on the road in New Orleans and get Hackenberg ready for a home game and a trip to New England agaisnt the Pats backups. Im sure starting Hackenberg is the coaching staffs worst nightmare, but at this point it needs to be done Thoughts?
It needs to be done, but it won't happen. If McCown can't go, then Petty will have the job for the rest of the season, barring injury. Given Bowles' desire to play veteran QBs, Petty is the only thing he has that's even close to resembling what he wants out there. Hackenberg is still, essentially, a rookie.
Don't worry Jethro, the CS will make sure Petty fails and Mackenberg will get some real playing time.
After the showing the line put up yesterday, Mac may just want him benched for the season to protect him from harm.
I don't think the CS has to try too hard to get Petty to fail... It should be Hackentime right now. Petty is terrible and won't be with the team next year. What's the best case scenario? He doesn't suck, has three good games and then what? Let Hack play, let him stink, move on with a new QB in 2018 with McCown either ahead of or behind him.
He'll get a game. Petty will play two. We'll lose by three touchdowns and see Hackenburg. Then we'll see why McNown played the whole year.
The best thing for everyone on the Jets is a clean slate at Qb. New starter, new Qb project (prospect). New HC wouldnt hurt either.
Isn't this obvious at this point?! Petty and Hack are otter crap. If we were running McCown out there again and again after his back got crushed, its because the other options suck!
Hackenberg will play the final game of the season @NE. Since New England will be playing all backups after having wrapped up homefield advantage before the game it will basically be another preseason game and thus any conclusions from the game will be pretty meaningless. That won't stop us all though
It already is ugly, Bowles and the CS was so distraught that they gave up going for it on 4th down after Petty missed that wide open 4th and 3. If he completed that pass, perhaps the Jets pass more. BTW lets not make this about Hack vs Petty ... they both suck.
