Hot rumor making its way around that the Mets will name Keith Hernandez as their new manager tomorrow.
I'm a Yankees fan but I hope the Mets turn it around next year. Terry Collins was not the problem though, if the pitchers don't get healthy Keith Hernandez or whoever becomes manager will have the same losing record.
After the game in the booth Gary implied something big being announced tomorrow regarding Keith. I'll be surprised he does a Mgr. gig tho.
Thor and Familia look good to close it out, that's a big positive. Jake is good. Now they gotta get Matz and Wheeler good, and maybe picked up a vet innings eater like Colon was for them.
It would be a masterstroke of incredible positive PR for this franchise if they did such a thing, Hernandez knows the town, handles the media well, is an excellent strategist of the game, and Mets fans would sign on the dotted line for season ticket renewals with such a move after this year's demoralizing season...particularly with morale in Queens at such a low ebb right now. However, because it is the Mets, because it is the Wilpon's, I see no way this happens. More than likely they'll announce his #17 will be retired next year in a move that is overdue by about 15 years.
I am far less enthusiastic than you are that Hernandez would be a good manager, but I agree that it would be shocking if it happened anyway. That mysterious ending of the broadcast sure leads to all of this speculation, however. No other explanation comes to mind, but it just seems so unlikely. Of course the number should have been retired, but announcing it now, rather than in January or February when the schedule comes out and people are thinking about baseball, would be very strange.
Maybe to divert attention away from the atrocious way it went down with Terry? Thankfully Wright spoke out right away about that disgrace, and maybe that forced Sandy to do the same. Sandy said he would fired anyone in the FO if he knew who leaked that dreck, and hopefully Wright and somebody else checks that cowardly bullshit within the clubhouse. Now, I really hope that someone in the media doesn't forget what Sandy said, and calls him on it at some point.
Met fan here, I for one will never forgive Hernandez for giving up on his team in the '86 World Series. With 2 outs in game 6, when the scoreboard at Shea congratulated the Red Sox for winning the series. Keith was in the clubhouse beer and cigarette in hand instead of being in the dugout with the rest of his teammates Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well, it turned out to be much ado about nothing - he's working the Fox studio show for the MLB playoffs (along with David Ortiz) as a replacement for that noted (alleged) fan of 15-year-old girls, Pete Rose. Sorry, Gary and Keith, but that didn't warrant the mystery cliffhanger ending to the Mets season.
Jets / Yankees / Knicks I used to be an Islander fan as I lived in Hempstead/Uniondale most of my life and would walk to the Coliseum with my dad. Since being in Tampa since 06, I have slowly but surely made my way over to really enjoying the Lightning. Beautiful downtown Tampa arena and a really good team that has Stanley Cup aspirations. Will never change allegiances over the three teams at the top though. Ever.
Jets/Mets/Knicks....Possibly one of the worst trifectas to have in the country, and loving every minute of it! My least favorite things is some people I know who are supposed "Yankees" fans but then when the Mets were in the playoffs and making a run were wearing Mets stuff and rooting for them and said "I root for both". You know how they say in football if you have two QBs that means you have no QB. Well, if you have two teams, you have no team.
Stopped following baseball beginning with the 58 season the Dodgers 1st in LA & my only interest now is baseball is that the NYYs never win another championship
I highly doubt that..Kieth is an old school guy who would manage by his gut..those guys aren't hired these days it will be a guy who embraces analytics and is a puppet for the GM.
I don't understand the Met's training BS they put their players through. Who sanctioned hiring that guy? One of the player's gurus who basically ____ up half the team. Sandy Alderson is a great GM but the ownership haven't a clue. Collins should have been gone once he lost the locker room.
Jets/Yankees/Devils (the Knicks are dead to me until Dolan is gone). IRL I'm pretty much surrounded by Giants/Mets/Rangers fans, so that's fun lol. At first, as a kid, I tried the whole "root for every NY team!" thing...I realized it was dumb then. Why did I choose the Jets? I honestly don't remember.
