That's the Parcell's line that stuck with me. You are what your record says you are. We're a mediocre football team with no identity. Offensively we can't run consistently or pass downfield further then 15 yds. Our defense has no true identity either. (although the last games have show promise)Are we a playoff team? Maybe but we won't get a win in the playoffs this year. We're not good enough plain and simple. We can't match up on a consistent basis with the better NFL teams. However there is a happy ending here. Mangini is a 1st yr coach that took over a old injured team and is transforming us in to a contender. He and Tannenbaum are building a winning program Two years from now and we may be on our way to a SB but not this year. Most of us are happy to date with the team. A 10-6 season gets Mangini Coach of the year in my eyes. Except for Jacksonville we've competed every week. Take it from a Darksider the glass is half-full
You know, it's exactly this kind of attitude (starting with Hess and continuing with Johnson) that keeps the Jets a mediocre franchise. Oh...I mean mediocre in a good year...when we're not mediocre, we're typically the league laughing stock.
I do not think the poster is accepting mediocrity, but just staing fact..We are Mediocre. Would you rather have him say we are 5-5 and the best team in the league?
I woulnt call 1998, 2002, 2004 exactly mediocre years....id call last year the laughing stock of the NFL but thats about it....where do you spew this load of crap from?
The tone of his thread was "Hey...let's all calm down and not be so angry" So, yes, I think he IS accpeting mediocrity.
2005 4-12 2004 10-6 2003 6-10 2002 9-7 2001 10-6 2000 9-7 1999 8-8 1998 12-4 1997 9-7 1996 1-15 1995 3-13 1994 6-10 1993 8-8 1992 4-12 1991 8-8 1990 6-10 1989 4-12 Do you want me to keep going?
go to the recent years....1998 and on....then tell me the result of the year and how we ended....9-7 in 2002 doesnt show we made in to the 2nd round of the playoffs while smashing peyton manning and the colts 41-0 in the first round so sure...keep going floyd...im sure you have lots of time on your hands
Obviously Floyd wants us to get in a fit of rage and not accept losing. This regime is worried about winning in 2006 and beyond. They were not here 30 years prior and the way, many of us have seen things in the past does not mean anything to carving out a bright future. You do not go back to the drawing board after one loss.
Would Bill Parcells (one of the best modern day coaches) want it any other way? Listen...I get that this is a new regime...I get that it's gonna take time to see what's what... BUT...I can't take this season in a vaccuum aside from all the other seasons...my patience has grown thin... I've been patient through TOO MANY regime changes....Walton-Coslet-Kotite-Parcells-Groh-Edwards...with countless Coordinator changes.... At what point does "regime change" equate to crying wolf? I want results...I don't care what the circumstances are...I want a 13-3 team...I want home field in the playoffs... I WANT A SUPERBOWL TITLE BABY j E T S Jets Jets Jets
Since Parcells took over we are 77-67 with 4 playoff appearances and 3 playoff wins. Not exactly laughingstock & not exactly mediocre either..
I hate calling people names...but...DIMWIT...our record over the course of ten years averages out to one game over .500 every year.... In a league built on the premise of parity, you don't think 9-7 or 8-8 (which is what we average since Parcells) is mediocre?
