Sounds like teams didn't want his salary and that could have been the hold up. he wasn't interested in taking a pay cut. I wonder what the compensation they were offering to the jets
At least he's honest. That said I wouldn't pay him. Mo and Leo are more than enough for the DL, and he's too much of a headache.
or maybe hes embarrassed nobody wanted to trade for him so he pretended teams were beating down the jets door but he wasn't willing to take less. sounds like a bruised ego and a shitty spin job.
btw this team barely told it's head coach they were cutting david harris, if at all. am I to believe they were telling Sheldon what the offers were, that were coming from other teams? yeah OKAY buddy.
If the teams in the trade asked that rich takes a paycut, then yes obviously they would have to tell him to see if he was willing to
Is NFL like baseball in that the Jets could have paid part of his salary just to get rid of him? Assuming of course the draft picks were satisfactory.
They could pay part of it by paying him a roster bonus the day before the trade, then that part is on the jets cap and other team only pays the balance.
they would have had to do some financial magic but yes. it's not like baseball but they could have signed him to a 2 year dealthat was reworked and the 2nd year being an auto coid (like we did with fitz) and change his 8 mil salary into a signing bonus with 3 mil salary and then the jets would be on the books for 5 mil and the other team only 3 mil. rich would be happy cause he gets the 5 mil upfront so more money "now" rather then later but the same amount over the course of the year.
Too much thought put into that. As i mentioned all the Jets should have to do is pay whatever portion they are covering as a roster bonus then finish the trade, no magic needed. The roster bonus is then on Jets cap and the rest on his new team.
which still means they need to agree to a contract restructure. NFL rules prohibit just changing how you pay. you have to pay per contract. They could do a 1 year deal and convert money into a signing bonus to give money upfront. the 2 year thing was probably too far. i remember we did it for cromartie cause he was broke and owed child support. but either way it still requires a new contract. they can't just hand him money and have it change the cap
An addendum to a contract is not a big deal, i figured it was a given people would understand that it would be in writing.
True but if sheldon didn't want to be traded he could decide not to agree with it. the jets wouldn't have any control over it. SO it's not quite as easy as paying him money and trading him, richardson would have to agree which adds an extra wrinkle to the process
I'm sure Richardson would be dead set against getting the same exact amount of money and having to play for the Seahawks, staying on the Jets for this shit show of a year is sure to enhance his value during free agency next year.
That's very likely but on the flip side, the jets could be against eating more cap on a player we wouldn't have and also it's not a bad spot for rich. playing alongside wilk and williams is a good way to ensure he doesn't see double teams and increases his sack potential.
I know he has made some mistakes, but hes earned my respect. This will probably be his last year on the team, but I do appreciate him hustling and never giving up, no matter what the score was. The only one to call Brandon Marshall out, and we all saw how Marshall gave up on the team, truly pathetic. Excited to watch him in Green for one more year, I hope they don't trade him in camp- I think he will leave on a positive note.
