Nope only deal in Madoff era ponzi scheme sorcery. Throw the fans a bone by giving the illusion they are rebuilding. But you never see the profits and we as fans keep investing (time, money, apparel).

I didn't say both coordinators. I wouldn't want Rodgers retained. I've seen a coordinator or some position coaches retained a number of times when teams changed HCs. Brian Schottenheimer was retained as OC when the Jets hired Rex. I've also seen the same offensive or defensive systems retained. I think Sparano kept Schottenheimer's basic system.

As I said, a new defensive system would not necessarily be that big a transition since the team is used to playing both 4-man and 3-man fronts. There could be other factors such as read and react vs aggressive attacking, or terminology that makes it different and would require some adjustment, but that's different from a wholesale change. Where the change would hurt the most, would be offense. Lots of OCs run the WCO, and whereas some terminology would be different, the concepts would be the same, and not that big a change.

In terms of "great planning," the Jets should have told Gailey to go ahead and retire before this past season since he planned to at the end of the season anyway. In that way, Hack wouldn't have had to change systems. Change happens. That's what happens when you make bad hires. It's what happens when you have a doofus as an owner who has no clue what he's doing. It happens with an offense when it is neglected in the draft and one continually hires defensive coaches as HC.

The plan was for QB coach Kevin Patullo to succeed Gailey at OC. But last year's offense was such a debacle that Bowles cleaned house. Patullo would have likely continued Gailey's spread, which is why drafting Hack was even more curious. But hey, it's the Jets.

Well we agree on owner and coach but not what kind of change s new head coach causes. Bottom
Line is the jets can't do anything correct.

You know it or I would be out quicker then a veteran Jet this year.

Young or old, Mike D'Antoni, the HC of the Houston Rockets had a great quote this year. He was up for coach of the year, and his response was something like, 'You know why? Cause I have good players. And they weren't expected to do well'

Bottom line - you need good players, no matter how good of a coach you are. If some of these guys step up, then maybe Bowles will look great. But at least with a veteran team, the bar has been set, and you can tell if the coach is doing his job.

Not if the talent fell off a cliff due to age or injury [i.e. Revis, Wilk, Fitz, Mangold, Brick, etc.]

From what I've read, Bowles is pretty tough and disciplined behind the scenes - its to the media he chooses to not vilify his players. He keeps it behind closed doors - old school. There is nobody who came from the coaching tree he did from both his playing days, and coaching, that doesn't like discipline.

I just think Bowles is in over his head when it comes to game management. Specifically when to grab your nuts and go for it, vs. when to play it safe. I'm not sure if this year we will have the opportunity to truly judge his team. They have a ridiculously poor roster barring a handful of surprise players, specifically one at QB.

    anyone can make cuts.
the key is acquiring better players than you let go.
so far not a great start.
this draft and 18 will make or break the regime .

Yes, unfortunately, you're right...more often than not the Jets can't or don't do anything right. I fear that will never change until we get an owner who either knows football, or one who is not so arrogant or narcissistic to think he can effectively make football decisions when he knows little about the game, and who will be humble and honest enough to know that he needs to hire a football man to run the organization.

The power structure is very off with the Jets. Both Macc and Bowles report to Woody independently. That's why I'm much higher on having Macc back in 2018 with his own hand picked coach and a revised power structure which allows coach to answer to GM and GM to answer to Woody

We'll have to agree to disagree. Good players certainly helps, but I've seen a lot of teams who weren't all that talented play solid, consistent football. They may lose because the other team has more talent, but they don't beat themselves with sloppy play, they show up prepared, and they beat teams that perhaps they shouldn't. Not having enough talent is an excuse for the crappy play that we've seen from the Jets imo.

Bowles didn't have to keep playing Revis or Fitz last year after they were stinking up the joint. He chose to, in spite of the fact that we had young players that needed to get some experience and we needed to see what we had in them. That's on him. Again, imo this is just an excuse.

You've been reading the wrong sources. Bowles didn't punish Sheldon and Mo last season until they had been late multiple times and Mo had skipped a team walkthrough. A disciplinarian would have nipped it in the bud after the first incident. You must have not read/heard about Bowles' comments this offseason about players being late. His attitude was lackadaisical and he made excuses for the players. He is NOT a disciplinarian. Everyone seems to acknowledge that he is a players' coach and not a disciplinarian but you and 1 or 2 others.

100% in agreement with you. In fact overpaying through the nose to bring Fitz back for that shit performance last year to pacify in my opinion non other than Bowles was Mac's biggest mistake. A mistake Mac is not repeating this year. Bowles better get some production out of his defense or he is toast.

Late to meetings. Come on. This is the big 'lack of discipline'? You've never been late to work? And he benched them, and there were no problems after. What's he supposed to do? Make them run laps, lol.

Bowles' team was pretty well prepared for the majority of the games, if not all, and they were decent with penalties, etc. That's the mark of discipline. But if you call a defense and your safeties 'miscommunicate' as your cornerback gets burnt, I'm sorry, that's not about discipline. Call it what it is. Bowles is no master game technician, but as far as handling players, and getting his team ready, I don't have a problem with what I've read. Listen to ex-players - none of them have ripped Bowles, but they have ripped the Jets Organization. What does that tell you?

I've agreed with most everything in your posts. I don't think Bowles is as bad as the rap he's getting and I am surprised that Maccagnan seemingly can do no wrong while Bowles gets trashed.

But I do have to say that while for the most part I think you are right, I remember back to that rainy X-mas eve game against NE and boy, the team sure didn't look like they were prepared for that game

This post right here tells me you didn't watch much Jets football last year.

Guy, you have no idea what you're talking about. Yes, I've been late to work, but I haven't worked a job where there was a zero tolerance for lateness. With athletic teams, there is most often a zero tolerance on the better teams. When a player is late, not only does he miss what was said or done, which hurts the team as well as himself, but he also wastes the coaches' and other players' time. Athletic teams rely on discipline and having each other's backs. You obviously have never played sports and didn't pay much attention to the Jets last year.

Yes, Bowles benched them, but after multiple times of being late and Mo's having totally skipped a player walkthrough, and then it was what for a quarter? He can fine them, he can bench them for more than a quarter (including multiple games until they earn their starting spot back), and he can suspend them.

Bowles team was not prepared for most games last season. The play was sloppy. A player or two this offseason even commented that they didn't work hard enough in practice last season. They beat themselves with mental errors (which again shows not being prepared) and poor execution. A number of players were dogging it on the field and had pretty much quit on the team and season, and you call that discipline? ROFLMAO. Again, you either have no clue what you're talking about or have incredibly low standards for the play of the team. Either way, we'll never agree so this discussion is over.

I just had an eye exam this week and my vision was deemed "good, very good" and the ophthalmologist said my eyes were in the same condition as people with good vision fifteen to twenty years younger than me. I've been watching the Jets for a long, long time with two eyes and I see things totally different than One Eye does. Bowles is wasting our time this year.

I didn't want to start a new thread about this, so I'll ask it here. Do you think that we need to go offense with the first pick next year no matter who is on the board? I think that people would start jumping off the Verrazano Bridge if we go defense again with the first pick. For the sake of fan loyalty, we have to go QB or OL with number 1 next year.

I think it depends. If Hack or Petty prove this season to be a franchise-caliber QB, then the Jets won't need to take a QB, and they could possibly trade down for a wealth of picks, or stay put and take a stud pass rusher, stud LT prospect, or even stud #1 WR or CB prospect. If neither Hack nor Petty convince the Jets that he is the team's future starter, then I would certainly expect and hope that the team's first pick would be a QB, and I think that is what Mac would do. If not, then I think there'd be some 'splainin' to do to the team's fan base.

If Hack or Petty emerge as the team's QB of the future, I think the first pick should be either a stud pass rusher or an LT, but I think pretty easily it could not be what happens if Mac sticks to his BPA philosophy. It could depend upon whether the Jets stay put or trade down. The only two defensive possibilities I could see Mac justifying would be an edge-rushing OLB/DE prospect or a stud shut-down CB. In general, I don't think a CB is worthy of a top ten selection, so if the Jets are drafting in the top ten, then it should be the pass rusher, not the CB. If the Jets have traded down outside the top 10, then it could be either. If it was a defensive pick, a lot of fans would be unhappy regardless, but if the Jets already have a QB that fans are excited about, and they trade down for a couple of 1st round picks either next year or one next year and one in 2019, plus a 2nd round pick or possibly a 3rd and 4th, and Mac used those on offense, I think most fans would be understanding and accepting. I think a lot will depend upon how the young players play this season and who develops. If Adams and Maye prove to be a great safety tandem, then I think Mac earns some trust and leeway. If some of his other draft picks develop and/or show a lot of promise, then that will help too. It will also depend upon what Mac does in FA.

If you think the jets looked "prepared" for either the Cardinal or Colts prime-time game last year, you are crazy. I have never been more embarrassed as a jets fan.
