Gaffney was a quality player for the Jets. Whenever I think of him I see the picture of a wide-open Gaffney in the back of the end zone waiting to catch the throw from Richard Todd that would have completed a miraculous comeback in the playoffs on December 27, 1981...then Bill Simpson went ahead and ruined everything.
Indeed, I could feel Big Shea rocking and I think my TV was vibrating that day. If Jets had won that game I think they might have gone to the Super Bowl that year.
I was there that day too. Shoulda been one of the great NFL playoff comebacks in history. Oh, Bruce Harper, how could you? The first thought that come to my mind about Derrick Gaffney is "great hands". He was reliable once the football got near him. In many ways he was the 'anti-Lam Jones" Did something happen to him that we're remembering him today?
My thoughts on Gaffney was a solid receiver with great hands. A perfect compliment to Wesley Walker. I think Gaffney ran like a 4.7 forty if he were a 4.5 guy no telling how good he could have been. What a shame Lam Jones had all that speed and couldn't catch a cold.
FanSinceBIGShea happened, he's is seeing if he can hit the record of most threads started in posters first 30 days
Yup that is THE game......todd didn't look off simpson enough and he was right in the path of the pass. Walker dropped a certain long TD pass that game. Harper's fumble was the devil collecting his due that day.
