I didn't like the pick at the time but he wasn't a reach - my mate (a niners fan) was really gutted they didn't take him in the first and he was mocked on nfl.com as a first round pick for a few teams. it was an odd draft for wide receivers - loads of WRs taken in the first round that have almost all had injury issues (some major)
Fair enough. I just liked DGB way more. I was a big supporter of Jaelen Strong. That didn't turn out at all either.
He and Dee Milliner can be the 1st inductees that are enshrined in the Jets' Ring of Injury. Anyone else to add who's careers ended before they started?
He was cursed the day Geno threw him that unreachable pass Ok Devin..time to use y our college degree
After losing out on OBJ the year before, the Jets took Devin Smith who had almost identical combine #'s (slightly better to be honest)... never panned out, but it didn't seem like such a bad pick at the time. Sad to see him go out like this...
What would be the point of that? Time to send the kid on his way in life as his NFL career I honestly think is over.
Didn't like Smith or either of those guys.... I researched a lot for that draft... Imagine if we took Lockett and then DJ...
Definitely possible. I always try to remain positive and optimistic. Hard to do being a Jets fan most of the time though.
I totally agree. There have been some snide comments on Twitter..and frankly let's remember, this is someone's career. When tDevin was playing for Ohio State in their championship run, he looked unbelievable. Had speed, great at tracking the ball. Then once he got the pros, he couldn't get it together. And now ACL tears, his career could be over. I feel horrible for him. To just see your dream die....very sad, But it's the nature of the beast.
Makes u wonder if guys like Sidney Jones and Jake Butt were taken off our board because of their similar leg injuries, Devin Smith was essentially Maccs first pick since Leonard WIlliams was such a no brainer. Him literally contributing nothing for us has sting big time
Drafting to replace a guy rather than building and growing players from within we draft to replace and throw them to the dogs. Pryor and Gilchrist were looking pretty damn good just a season ago; now they are chaff. This is the sort of thing that will keep the Jets in an ugly holding pattern.
It is harsh. But it is true. That sucks for Devin. Absolutely terrible. But he was an investment as a 2nd rounder and was a complete bust. He is no longer going to be on the team.
