Dumb and ignorant statement. Did you know that Adams at his pro day was officially clocked at 4.47? And unofficially clocked and agreed upon by several scouts that he ran a 4.33? Mayes also ran in the 4.4s. BOTH could play centerfield! Now we have 2 safeties that can also cover the tight ends and shifty underneath cross receivers!! WAKE THE F**k UP
Alright men, my top available prospect today that I want the Jets to select... You'll never believe this... S Eddie Jackson, Alabama WTF? We just drafted two safeties! Jackson differentiates himself from the two we just drafted in that he's a single high safety. Think of him as the poor man's Malik Hooker. Schematically we know Bowles likes running 3 safety sets. Adams, and to a lesser extent Maye, can slide into the nickel corner and Jackson can play over top in defense of the deep ball, something we were miserable against last year. If picked he'd be the rangiest safety on the roster and also a contributor on special teams. Best pick available, git er dun! Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
I have no problem with using one of our eleventy picks today on another safety, if he is indeed BPA. Bowles may be green when it comes to coaching a team, but the man can run a defense when given the chips. At the very least, our special teams play will improve.
Eddie Jackson.....Alabama.... Like it!!! He has 4.4 speed. also played corner and wideout = good ball skills. Eddie is an Excellent return man. I don't want to EVER see jalin marshall return punts again.
Do you remember a stretch of about 10 years where we had amazing kick and punt returners? Whether it was Chad Morton, Leon Johnson, or Justin Miller, I always felt like we had a chance to take one to the end zone.
Good news is that we save $6 million if we cut Gilchrist after June 1st. Pyror will likely stay one more year because he only costs $2mil for one more season and thats all dead cap if we cut him early. Also, we were getting probably the worst ROI for our secondary in the league especially when you include Revis' salary in there. So if you think of it this way, we are going to have a lot more money for other positions from 2018 onward.
Leon Washington, and thank God Justin and Miller could return kicks because he was a shit cornerback.
I was all for Jackson with our late third rounder. He like Stewart, is a football player. Team leader and liked his special teams value, however I don't know about a third safety unless the team is convinced Gilchrist is toast either due to cap or injury and Pryor going or gone.
Lol....wow a distant memory. BUT yes.....multiple pro bowl returners. Recent memory......Jets return game is Sooo sad....its laughable.
Gilchrist was toast the second he had an opportunity to lay out a run blocking Tom Brady and let him go. He sucks and should be removed as soon as possible. Jackson's skill set allows different coverage options than what we got with Adams and Maye and also provides insurance in case one of them gets hurt and we're right back where we started before drafting two new safeties and revamping our defensive backfield.
Is 4th round too early to consider players for special teams? Just sick of Specials costing Jets games.
I hope anyone that isn't a QB, lineman, or foundational player would play special teams. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Yes.....backups should play special teams. What i meant was....... is 4th too early to consider picking players mainly for specials?
They weren't that bad? I think a good chunk of them were pretty bad, all the way to the play calling. Granted, I think once deck went down they became one dimensional, but to me that fits clearly into bad. It was so bad, Powell looked great. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I am sure you don't mean kickers, but for other players I wouldn't use a fourth for just specials. If you find a third wr or db, who you still project to be used as a sub package player early, special teams is a bonus or delineator over a similarly rated draft option. Also could apply to LB/rb prospects. This year I would be taking some hit or miss projects later because we have so many needs. If you are a stacked team and have fulfilled your needs there is nothing wrong with taking a late 6 or 7 on a guy who you feel would be a demon on specials but we are not at that point yet.
