and that entire 2008 draft class might be the worst draft class ever in the nfl POSITION SCHOOL 1 6 Vernon Gholston LB Ohio State 1 30 Dustin Keller TE Purdue 4 113 Dwight Lowery CB San Jose State 5 162 Erik Ainge QB Tennessee 6 171 Marcus Henry WR Kansas 7 211 Nate Garner T Arkansas colossal bust at 6, serviceable te at 30, journeyman cb/s at 113 and 3 players that couldn't believe they were going to get to practice with an nfl team. brutal edit: 2010 and 2012 weren't any beauty queens either. my god we can't draft.
And Macc seems to be following suit by cutting Jace Amaro, letting Snacks walk, and now Richardson (defensive rookie of the year) seems on his way out too. Geno Smith I get, but the others??? WTF. Especially Snacks. Snacks would have signed a $5M/per deal in '15 when Macc was spending all the dough. Anyway, MAYBE Macc will re-up HIS players when the time comes.
Amaro is a stiff. He was a terrible pick in the 2nd round (Jet's specialty lately) and he is currently a 3rd string TE with the Titans. They'll let him go for somebody who wants to block before too long.
It really isn't hard. It is like these guys don't actually do shit. I'm not even kidding that if Woody let me or some of the other draft forum regulars control the war room since 2008 this team would have been in much better shape. Shit, it was clear as fucking day to draft Vic Beasley at #6. But, nah let's go with the 3-4 DL that will surely be a game changer.
i agree with some of this and i am not a draftnik but i remember williams being called the best player in the draft by a lot of people. we fucked up some drafts but that pick is way way down,if at all, on the list of bad picks.
It is not a terrible pick by any means. It will definitely pay off. But for a team to select a DL in the 1st for the 4th year since 2012 is the dumbest shit I have ever seen. Moves like that are why our offense is garbage and we have one winning season in 6 years. The most vital positions in the 3-4 are the NT and OLB. We have completely and down right disgustingly neglected OLB since 2008. Moves like that reek of disfunctionality and SOJ. The last time this team has drafted an offensive player in the first round? 2009. If we do it again this year that is 9 years in a row.
I love Leonard Williams, --- but I must admit that this is probably the best article I read regarding the bigger optics involved behind choosing between Leonard Williams or Vic Beasley; http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2017/01/would_jets_be_better_off_with_vic_beasley_not_leon.html General manager Mike Maccagnan lives and dies by the most overused draft cliche: Take the best player available. This isn't always the best decision. A team should take the best player available ... at a position of need. Teams don't win with the best 53 players, they win with the right 53. Drafting Williams didn't help the Jets. He made a team strength a bigger strength. Beasley would have improved a glaring weakness. And people act like "how dare you suggest we'd be better off passing on L. Williams???? It would have been the end of the world!!!!" For a team that took perennial losers in Dee Milliner, Quinton Coples, Kyle Wilson, ----- I'm sure we'd be fine splitting the hairs between the aforementioned 2 players back in April, 2015.
I'll always bump a post bashing Terry Bradway. Having Rex Ryan involved with drafting players (Sanchez, Quinton Coples, John Conner) didnt help our cause either.
Absolutely. You take BPA in what you need. The strongest unit of the ENITRE TEAM was the DL. The area that needed to be improved the LEAST, the DL. Yet we decided to invest another 1st rounder in DL (4th since 2012). SOJ like shit.
I thought I was remembering a trend correctly. I got to thinking about how we piss away 2nd round picks. We love to take defense in the 1st round, shocker I know... this year will be the 9th year in a row if we do it. However, this team seems to LOVES offense in the 2nd round. Almost reaching to over compensate for taking defense in the 1st. Since 2008 we have had six 2nd round picks. The likes have been Hackenberg, Smith, Amaro, Geno, Stephen Hill, and Ducasse. The Jets have not gone defense in the 2nd since 2007. Wanna know who we took in 2007? David Hitman Harris. Since 2007 this team has drafted nine OL. Six have been round 5 or later. Only two OL since 2007 in round 3 or before. Ducasse and Winters. No 1st round WR since 1998. Two QBs in the 1st since 2000. With these trends it would seem that whoever is in control is trying to purposely sink the ship. But sadly it is straight incompetency. No wonder why this team is so shitty.
