I would love to snag Williams at 6. With an aging Marshall and some quality role playing WRs a true #1 drafted with elite size and speed in Williams would be a great addition for a building block to the O. I get that we need Oline and would like that too but i dont think you can pass on Mike Williams if he falls.
Next year's QB class is better. The problem with grabbing a stop gap vet is that he will stop us from getting a real franchise QB next year by winning too many games. You have to stick with Petty or Hack - if they play great there is no need to go after a QB. If they don't play well we will draft really high. I don't want an 8-8 team with a stop gap vet - it just stops us from a bright future, whether it's holding our young guys back or killing our draft next year.
Let's be honest though you guys say wait til 2018 for a QB I don't think we are getting a top 5 pick in 2018 , and who says the browns in 2018 would even take offers if The USC QB at #1 They are going to want him they have had enough of trading down Unless we are the worst team in the league next year we are not getting Sam darnold Which I don't think we are going to be the worst team Draft Watson please
When you think about it we really do have some young talent across the board Leonard William MO Jordan Jenkins mauldy Lee Corner yes we need help Safety need help too maybe include Pryor O line Wesley Johnson Shell Enuwa decker Anderson Powell (kinda young) We need our QB DRAFT WATSON
And Vince Young was the best player on the field when Texas pulled the huge upset of USC. Look how he ended up doing at the next level. Just sayin'.
Vince Young's problems had nothing to do with football, they were personal. He had a career record of 31-19. He turned a 4-12 record into a 8-8 record his rookie year. Followed that up with 10-6 and a playoff appearance. DeShaun Watson is no where near Vince Young on a mental level. Watson completed his career at Clemson losing only 3 games while winning 32. He's a winner, he's smart (finished his degree in 3 years) and is a great team leader. In short, he has all the tools and is the type of QB that can turn this franchise around. In my opinion, he is worth trading up to get.
Don't know. I've already seen some 2018 mocks projecting Jets with the #1 pick and taking Darnold. Depends how committed they are to burning it to the ground this year and rebuilding. 2017 could easily be a worse year record wise than last year.
I agree that he seems to have more going on upstairs than Vince Young and better throwing mechanics as well. I still feel that 2017 is a shit draft for QB's and in a normal year you're probably looking at a guy like Watson as a late first / early 2nd round selection.
Watson balled twice against great 'Bama D's. It obvious Watson is a leader and extremely coachable coming into the NFL. He's got a chance to be special in year one in the right offense. I don't put any stock into the Vince Young comparison.
He might not make it to 6, but I can almost guarantee that Cleveland doesn't take him at #1. Almost every report out there right now says browns are in love with Myles Garret from Texas A&M, and have him way higher than any other player. Personally think that 49ers snatch Watson, and thats a good thing for us. We need to build from the inside out, and we need a young strong Offensive Line first and foremost. Although wouldn't be mad if we took Fournette at 6, we really should be going with the unsexy OLine pick.
Jets are very up and down as you know, usually coming off a bad year they tend to do good, but even if we do bad I know for a fact we're not getting the #1 pick, half our team was injuried and it was petty's like 3rd career start and our locker room was a complete mess and we still beat the 49ers
Disagree about his talent. I think he's a top pick in any draft, but you may be absolutely right about it not being the year for QB's. Nevertheless, it's like the spider who kept building his web in front of a bear's den. His buddies kept telling him he was nuts. "Yeah but all I have to do is catch one and I'm eating for the rest of my life!" Who cares if it's a bad draft for QB's. If there's one blue chipper out there and within the Jets grasp, one is all the Jets need.
If Watson is there at 6, you take him. As for trading up, not sure I would be happy about that. I guess we could give any 2nd rounder considering we waste that pick every year anyway
With all due respect, you can't guarantee what Cleveland will do. Unless they are run by mental cretins (yes, possible, but highly unlikely), they will not tip their hand as to who they like and dislike. Even if, as you say, they like someone else, they will try to get the most they can from a team wanting to trade up to their pick. If the Jets really want Watson, they'll have no choice but to make a deal with Cleveland. And yes, it will cost the Jets, but moving from 6 to 1 shouldn't be as expensive as moving from the bottom half of the draft. QB is the most important piece of a championship team. You can add the other pieces in future drafts and FA.
If he's available at 6, then you have to take him. Maccagnan should also inquire about what it would take to move up to wherever it is he would need to move up in order to get him. If the price isn't too outrageous (as someone already said, giving up 2s isn't bad since the Jets couldn't hit on a second rounder if the franchise depended on it), then I think you have to make the move as well. Use the rest of the draft to build the O-line as best you can from what's available and then try to supplement that through free-agency.
